*insert griping about the number of jobs requiring a driver's license here*
I didn't think yesterday was that hard of a shift, but my thighs are kind of sore for some reason. Poo.

Actually... Would anyone be interested in being hired by me as a driving instructor? I would bus to and from wherever you are, and pay would be negotiable, although I was thinking $15/hour, including gas expenses. I'd definitely like to avoid paying the $40/hour of professional places, and if it gets to that I'd probably actually go to a professional school.

Man, I'm on the other side of it - got picked to be on a search committee to hire a guy to work on another team (programmer, but won't be working with me).

We had the initial "weed through the resumes" meeting this morning, and it was extremely annoying, because Mr. Annoying (another guy on the committee, who WILL be working with the new hire, on the other team) just kept on wanting to reject everyone on sight for the slightest of reasons. "Lives too far away? Why bother?" "Not a citizen so there's going to be visa hassles I just know it[1]" "Last few jobs were not programming, but rather low-end service gigs? Off with his head!!!" "Doesn't know exactly the development engine I want? Forget it!" and of course the "What? He lives in California and earns more than we pay? Don't even bother, he'll never move" like, WTF?

I swear, it's like he's never considered the idea that people occasionally take jobs of lesser desire when the economy sucks, or might actually want to move to a location for less $$$ for completely non-work-related reasons... can it hurt to call back and ASK, if the applicant is otherwise qualified? Geez. Plus the guy was making fun of names.

So I did win some, but this is gonna be a long, suck-filled process.

Anyway, as another person with no DL, I can say one of the reasons I personally might pick a city is that it has good transit, for instance, but...

[1] but one of those guys was a GREEN CARD HOLDER, Mr. Annoying has no idea how immigration works...

Seriously... God forbid you at least interview the people. ><; It seems like most jobs in Minneapolis don't require DLs for personal commute, but rather in case you need to drop someone off somewhere or make a delivery.
And how can you not understand the concept of a Green Card? I mean, maybe I overestimate the number of people who are familiar with Green Cards since my mom has one, but still...

Why don't you have your parents help you get your DL? It's not that hard.

Yeah... I've talked to my dad about it, and he basically doesn't want to anymore, since when he first started teaching me four or five years ago I got freaked out or something (I don't quite remember) and stopped wanting to learn.

I would consent but my parents will hit the roof since they're paying the insurance. That and my car is one of the worst cars to learn how to drive in.

"consent"? *laughs* But yeah, I figure most people aren't in that sort of position anyway, putting aside any desire to be a driving instructor.
