the trials of having two middle names

Ugh... I was just looking through my binder of awards, and came across my high school diploma. I never really looked at it before, but my own high school diploma is missing my second middle name. I mean, it's bad enough that my state I.D. can't fit all of my second middle name, reducing it to "Kathar", but for my high school diploma to not even have that much? I'd rather it just say "Nastassja Riemermann"!
When I eventually do approach graduation from college, I'd better make sure my college diploma is right.

月見についての作文

I finally finished my 月見 sakubun. Frankly, I think this paper is a piece of crap in terms of organization and content, but at least it's finished. I posted it to japanese to see if they have any grammatical corrections for me, which I'll look for myself as well in the morning, and then I'll turn it in to my teachers after work. But, for those who want to have their eyes burned by my horrible composition skills, be my guest.

月見
ナスターシア・リマーマン
　毎年アジア中で旧暦の八月十五日の夜に月見という祭りが祝われている。（今年の月見は新暦の九月二十五日である。）月見の習慣は国、地方によって違う。また、月見は多数の名前で呼ばれている。私もあの清明の真珠を眺めるのが大好きだが、どうしてアジアではお祭りになっているか、そしてどんな風に祝われているかと調べようと思っていた。
　月見の序開きはあまり分っていないが、元々中国の収穫祭だったと言う説がある。その後、中国の宮廷行事になり、平安時代頃に日本に入ったようである。人は月が見える場所に祭壇を作り、薄を飾り、月見団子や里芋を盛り、お酒を供え、豊作を祈る。今頃の月見の祝いも平安時代頃の祝いと違う。例えば、平安時代には貴族など間で舟などに乗り、水面に揺れる月を眺めたりすることが多かった。
　どんな天気が完璧と思われているだろう。秋は空気が乾燥なので、月が鮮やかに見え、それほど寒くない為で観月に対しての丁度いい季節である。でも、雲の全くない夜より、むしろ雲が少し出ていて、時々月を隠れたりするのは中々風流と思われている。
　月見は旧暦の八月十五日に行うと言っても、日本だけでは九月十三日に行うこともある。その日に行う場合は「十三夜」、「後(のち)の月」などと呼ばれている。十五夜を祝う人と十三夜を祝う人は片方の月見をお互いに嫌うこともあるようである。そして、十三夜を祝う各地には「十五夜をしたなら、必ず十三夜もしなければいけない」と言われている。
　地方によって月見の料理は違うが、一つの普通の料理は「月見そば」。月見そばは、茹でたそばを丼に入れ、海苔を敷き、生卵を割り入れ、汁と薬味を添えるものだ。敷いた海苔が群雲に見、卵が月に見える訳で「月見」と呼ばれる。伝統的な料理ではないが、１９９１年以来では９月から１０月まで目玉焼きの入った「月見バーガー」を発売している。
　日本の月見は韓国の仕事が休みになる月見より大事な祭りではないらしいが、そうと言っても昔から月を見出た日本人にも大切ではないという訳ではない。そうではなかったら、十三夜を祝う人は十五夜を嫌いなはずではないだろうね。でも、月見は確かに平和な祭りだと思う。

tea ceremony demonstration volunteers needed

I'm writing to let everyone on my f-list (who live in the Twin Cities, anyway) know that my tea ceremony class at the U is looking for volunteers to help with a tea ceremony demonstration (making tea, passing out tea and sweets, etc.) on Tuesday, March 20th from 5 to 7 pm. A tea master from Japan will be present to perform the ceremony, and we are expecting 50-100 guests. No experience is needed, but if you would like to help out please come to our practice session for approximately a half hour between 10 am and noon tomorrow (Wednesday, March 7th) in Nolte 229 so we can show you what you will be doing. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

bath... bath?

You know, I hate how the best temperature for a bath which just makes you want to stay there forever... Is too hot to stay in for more than 10 (15?) minutes.
So what I do is after I start getting too sleepy and can feel my heart beating too fast, I replace half the water with cold water, bringing it to a more summer-appropriate bath temperature, and sit in that for another 5 or 10 minutes and bring my circulation back to normal before attempting to wash up and rinse off.
