Fucking assholes in this world. I've lost my check card enough times in my life, and I take responsibility for that, but this is the first time someone's actually taken my card and used it. They spent $13.35 at SuperAmerica and $250.15 at Target. Of course I called TCF right away, and have a claim letter typed up and signed to have my dad fax in on Monday. I also asked dad if I can borrow some money from him to pay my UMN bill either until my claim comes through or I get my next paycheck, whichever is first. Unfortunately, there is reason to believe my claim will be denied, since the two fradulent transactions had timestamps before my last authorized use of my account, and since the Target transaction was reported as having my security code correctly keyed in (?!). Anyways, I hope I get the benefit of the doubt.
Anyways, I have a headache, and have spent far too much time tonight worrying about shit, so I'm probably going to go to bed now.

Get out of TCF, IMO, since at the restaurant, we used to get a lot of bounced checks before we stopped accepting checks altogether, and a large number of them were from TCF accounts. I'd say lock that check card up and just get a brand new one. Oh, and online banking is made of suck and fail.

I'll second the online banking part. I've had good experiences with TCF, though. It's nice that their banks and ATMs are like, common enough that you can find one when you need to. Part of the reason you might have gotten so many bad checks from them is simply because so many more people use them than other services around here.

They're good locationwise in the Twin Cities, but if you go out of state, then they're next to nonexistent, not to mention I would trust a large nationwide bank more if I were going out of the country with fees from ATM withdrawals and fraudulant charges.

Do we have any nationwide banks? I thought the two biggest ones in the Twin Cities were TCF and Wells Fargo.

Oh. I never go out of the Twin Cities.

You know what I don't get though? What's with the pompous British accent on the ATMs? Like, I could see them doing it to avoid preferring one particular dialect in the States if it was a nationwide bank, instead preferring a prestigious foreign dialect, but it's called fucking Twin Cities Federal Bank. Like, what would be wrong with a regular Twin Cities accent?

Why don't you like online banking? Like, papers and going into the bank and stuff are... complicated... for me. Having everything online is a lifesaver. But I'm not quite sure why you're saying I should switch banks.

Well, the online security in any bank is pitiful no matter what the banks say, not to mention it is SOOOO easy to have your info stolen when you do everything online. Especially if you're using wireless, when it's about 10x worse...

Anything you put online, someone else can get online if they work hard enough. That's some tasty paydata. I use checks and go to the bank in person whenever possible. Hell, I don't even have my UCard linked to my bank account. And as Alex says, unencrypted wireless is ridiculously easy to intercept, and I don't have a wired connection in my room. If I absolutely need to do business online, I use my folks' computer, which has the wired link to the router.

TL:DR; Online banking is how hackers pay their bills (with your money).
