I can't upload my porn!
Aug. 24th, 2008 10:04 pmSo, I effectively ruled out my firewall as the cause of my file transfer upload problems. Which is something I mostly consider to be a bad thing, since it means I now don't even have a guess as to what's causing them. Also, after running a speed test I found I'm getting around 2580 kbps down and 441 kbps up, compared to the 3 mb down and 1 mb up I'm theoretically paying for, but I understand that those theoretical numbers don't mean all that much. I am, however, going to call customer service as soon as I have my new August schedule with me and have them come out to make sure I have things set up as ideally as possible.
As for my August and September work schedules, Jim did re-make them already, at least as they'll be until a new person is hired. However, when I went in the back room after work today to copy them I found that there was only one sheet of paper left (and the toner was really low), so I was only able to copy the September schedule. I did verify when I'm working for the next two days, though (2-cl tomorrow, 1-cl Tuesday). I called Jim to ask what I'll be doing about the key issue, and he was basically unconcerned (for lack of a better word), essentially saying that something will easily be figured out tomorrow.
Oh, and let me just tell you how ecstatic I am about the number of times next month that I get to open the morning after closing. Getting home at 1:40 am and leaving home at 8:42 am is exactly how I want to live my life. ^_^; *sucks it up, glad for the hours, and reminding myself that at least I don't have to drive*

baranoneko's journal archives:
And in the "something shiny" category may I just comment briefly on Fafner and how almost every name I've looked at has some sort of eerie symbolic meaning. When the world is nearly destroyed and we all have to go to an island to hide from the aliens, I'm totally naming my child something that means "One who does not get exploded."
Yup. ^_^;
Regarding the Fall MAS shows... I'm a bit disappointed that we're watching two shows that are so fresh to me (Toshokan Sensou/Library Wars and Princess Tutu). Like, I'm thrilled to expose new people to Princess Tutu, but at the same time, since I'm re-watching it with
darking right now (we've finished Akt. 18), I'm worried that'll it'll get old. And Toshokan Sensou is kind of in the same boat, with me having finished it in July. Ah well, at least having already seen Toshokan Sensou will provide me with a buffer if I'm accidentally scheduled to work until 6, like I was on the 4th, and if I am getting bored with Tutu for some reason I can study Japanese or whatever.
And speaking of MAS, I realized I forgot to include the Wok in my budget. Well, I probably forgot a lot more than that, so I'll just adjust as I remember new things. I will be sticking to baby things, though, like egg rolls.

Date: 2008-08-25 05:09 am (UTC)Mostly my beef with Princess Tutu is that we've watched it before. When we established the rule about allowing repeats after a certain length of time, I was hoping that it would be used in case there weren't many other good suggestions, but the problem is that this time there were a metric crapton of other good suggestions - but Tutu has the Natsukashii factor so people voted for it instead. I'm not disappointed in the people who voted for the show, I'm moreso disappointed in the person who submitted it because I feel he didn't think it through (and he was dissing on my clips last Thursday, but I'll just leave that alone).

Date: 2008-08-25 05:29 am (UTC)I guess... I don't know, I kind of took it upon myself to only suggest stuff that hadn't been shown before because I like good anime to get exposure and there are just too many shows out there to be watching them twice. I mean, during a regular school year we have time for 8-10 shows only, and that's only maybe a third of the decent stuff that comes out every year. I know the other side of the argument is that there's a fresh crop of students coming in who probably haven't ever seen the show and it'll be new to them, but as you can tell I'm more inclined to go for the never-been-seen angle.
You might not care, but I've been considering suggesting that we retire shows after they've been shown twice and then getting them for the library. That way we could mark them on the "past showings" page as "MAS Classics" and make them available for free for people who are curious. That way new people get to see them and we can reserve the feature slots for other stuff.
Sorry, I blabbed all over your LJ :)

Date: 2008-08-25 10:55 pm (UTC)I've re-evaluated that statement, though, and decided my chid should actually be named "The One Who Survives, Nya Nya Nya Nya~" The taunting really is the important part.
