Damn it, my onigiri mold has gone missing. I think it might have been confused for tupperware and gotten thrown out when Ann was clearing out our "plastic container" collection. Just when I picked up a new batch of umeboshi, too. Well, I guess I'll just have to put in the extra time to attempt to mold my onigiri by hand. ^^;

Also, I'm chou nemui. Got to bed at 1 am last night, got up for work at 4:30. Got off of work at about 11:15 (my shift was scheduled to end at 10, but I was allowed to stay later to finish what I was working on), and after dawdling a bit in the computer lab I caught the next bus home, stopped at United Noodle, and got home at 12:45. Did laundry and dishes, and then took a nap which lasted for four hours. Now I'm just trying to clean my room, as it desperately needs it. Already made the beds and put away my laundry. I'm just too tired to have a lot of energy. I also found my good iPod case when I was making Alana's bed. Yay!

Jim's made the August schedule, and I'm only going to be closing five times during the month. Hopefully that doesn't mean my hours have been reduced, but we'll see when I go in tomorrow and check the schedule.

Because of having to work early today, I didn't go to the Wok with everyone yesterday, so I got some dinner (sliced beef congee) at 4:30. Apparently they have a different chef at that time of day, and I must say I like the evening chef's congee better. For one thing, the day chef's congee had no ginger or bamboo shoots, and despite my complaining about the oil in the congee the day chef's congee didn't have that problem, but I actually decided that that adds a bit to the flavor too. So, all in all, the congee was quite bland.

Talked to TCF about getting a more one-way savings account, and I had decided to save up the $500 minimum and open a CD, but after I told Dad about this plan he said it's not smart for someone of my income to put a lot of money into non-liquid savings. I guess I'm back to the square one of attempting to have some self-control. ^^;

And I think that's all I wanted to say. Wish me luck cleaning.

[EDIT: Note to self: Next time you add green onions to soup, wait until you actually pull the soup off the stove to add it, not one minute before. It takes surprisingly little to drain the flavor out of green onions, and it's not like the soup picks it up terribly well either. Also, using a tad less water might be good. For some reason adding so many things to the ramen dulls the flavor of the broth a bit much. Or maybe I just didn't have the water boiling long enough and it didn't evaporate as much as usual?]

Your dad's right. You need to be able to access it if you really need it, but you just need to not be spending it on RightStuf shit. Like, I don't really know what to tell you, but that's really the best and only answer.

I need to be spending less on anime, yes. Like, limit myself to $50/month. But I don't agree that I shouldn't be spending any on it. I think I also need to focus on not making all those "little purchases".

Fifty a month is still a lot of money.

It's under 10% of my income.

So if you were making sixty grand a year, you could spend up to six thousand dollars on anime and feel all right about it?

Hmm, I dunno. I mean, I think that's an appropriate amount to spend on entertainment, but as I alluded to earlier and am realizing more fully now, what's spent on anime needs to be NOT spent on other things. Plus, I don't think even I would try to buy 200 DVDs/600 manga a year. But I guess that's not your point.
I dunno, I probably do need to think about it more, but the fact is that anime purchases are one of my financial priorities, even if not in the top five, and I do feel that I would like to make it a firm category in my budget, be it 5 or 10%.
ETA: I guess my anime budget would be somewhat logarithmic.

Scheduling

I recommend scheduling your purchases. Set a date or interval for making Otaku buys, like every three months. Don't violate the schedule.

Make an end of year savings goal. Start with something very small like $50.00 This is $50.00 you will not spend on anything unless it is a major life enhancing buy. like a trip to Japan.

This should be thought of as exercise. The more often you are able to complete these goalas the stronger you will be.

Explain the end of year savings goal thing. Are you saying I should try to save $50 over the course of the next year, because even for me I think that's a little low... Or do you mean save $50 a month? Or something else entirely?
The "Otaku buys" schedule sounds like an idea to consider, although I wonder if that's not ideal since it would possibly mean missing sales on items I especially want, and I'd just have to pay more for it come shopping day.

Yes you will have to miss the sales.

If you also limit the amount you will spend on each scheduled buy then you will save a lot more money than you would by buying a lot of things on sale.

The savings goal is meant to be achievable. It is also supposed to be an amount that you won't pull money from for animes.

Also: The Rav 4 commercial is sung by a raccoon.

Well, yeah, limiting the amount spent would be the only way to make this make any sense.
