ingredient failure
Jul. 3rd, 2008 06:04 pmDammit, I really messed up on buying the ingredients for this "Japanese Noodle, Shrimp, and Cucumber Salad" I was planning on making for tomorrow. I made sure to get the right amount of chuuka soba when I was at United Noodles yesterday, but didn't bother to check the amount of bean sprouts or cucumbers I needed (1 lb. and 3, and I don't know how much sprouts I have and I only have 2 cucumbers). Then, when I was at Lund's picking up some watermelon today, I was like "Hey, let's get some shrimp! I don't have my recipe with me, but half a pound should be enough." Looking at the recipe now, I need 2 pounds. Whoops. I'm thinking I'll just halve the recipe (from 12 to 6 servings, and there will only be 3 people eating it), and it'll be a little short on shrimp. Shou ga nai. 'nother disappointing thing is I left my copy of Henry IV, Part I somewhere (I don't know where well enough to go back and get it, esp. when I'll have to make a special bus trip just for that) and I don't think the Coffman bookstore'll be open again until Monday. ><;
BUT! I did get a refill on my Dragonwell, a glass of iced Dragonwell to go, and a hair trim at Great Clips, as well as the delicious watermelon to look forward to. :) And despite the blunders, I think the salad'll be good too.
So, to Alex and Vinny, I'm bringing watermelon, the above salad, and onigiri with me - I'll let you guys decide on your own what you want to bring.
[EDIT: Huh, I think I might have bruised the watermelon bringing it home. It has a rather soft spot on it on one side now... Well, I'm sure it'll taste just fine, even if it's a bit messier to eat. I have no clue how to bring it on the picnic, though... Do I just cut it up ahead of time and put it in a tupperware container?]

I... would probably cut it up ahead of time rather than bringing it and cutting it there, since it's less messy that way.
