Victorian Romance Bath
Jun. 15th, 2008 03:26 pm練習.org keeps farting on me, and unfortunately it doesn't seem to have a good system for picking up where you left off. :( The worst thing is that as more kanji get added to my study list, the longer the quizzes get, and I've made a policy with myself to quiz myself on all of the study vectors but stroke count after answering every question, so when it craps on you on about question 55 of 120 after you've been working for about an hour and a half... Well, on the plus side at least I got good practice from my self-quizzing, even if I didn't get past the definition vector.
Watched the first eps of Victorian Romance Emma and the second season of Super GALS! (which were on the most recent Otaku USA DVD sampler) before going to bed this morning. I enjoyed Emma and felt that it had a lot of potential, and I'm way excited that
ellie_desu said she'd burn the discs for me when she gets them. As for Super GALS!, it was... Meh. To be honest, it reminded me a lot of Kodocha, a series whose main appeal to me these days is actually the nostalgia of when I first started watching it, plus the peppering of angst involved. And the Sana/Akito shipping. So yeah, I'd Netflix the Super GALS!, I think, but I wouldn't dream of paying for it. That said, I really like the OP, and I got a pleasant surprise when I found out the ED was Dakishimetai by Jungle Smile (I have the PV for that song, and I really love it).
Work yesterday was okay. I definitely need to work on my serving skills though. I spilled ice from my pitcher on people's food maybe three times, and once a guest pointed out that as I was pouring them coffee I had the coffee pitcher sticking right in another guest's face. ><; And then I never got to eat any of the food except the rolls I regularly helped myself to as we cleaned up afterwards because it got thrown out before I had any. See, at all the catering events I've worked there was some point during which we all kind of sat down and helped ourselves to the food, so I figured there would be some point at which it would become obvious to me that it was food time, but that never happened. The suckiest thing is I had a small bite of some chocolate cake, and it was really good. And just talking about it now is making my mouth water...
Almost ended up with a 105 min. commute home, but then I realized an alternate route I could take that might let me catch my transfer, and it worked out just fine and my commute turned out to be an easy 45 mins. ^_^
Oh, I also finished the first season boxed set (i.e., through ep. 27) of Rurouni Kenshin that
eurohybrid62 lent me. In generally the show's been okay, but I find myself far more interested by the, how would you say it, plot episodes?... than the episodic ones, and at least so far there have been mostly episodic ones. The preview for the Kyouto arc interested me quite a bit, though, and Alex told me that arc gets a lot less episodic, so I have good hopes. Now the question is mainly whether they'll dispense of that "ugly character designs for the baddies" thing that you see in so many shows at that really rubs me the wrong way.
My most recent RightStuf package was in Saint Paul as of Saturday night, so I'm thinking it'll be here tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm not overly giddy about it, as I already "own" both of the series I bought, but I am looking forward to starting the second Twelve Kingdoms novel. Now I'll just have to get over the fact that the two volumes are different shapes on my shelf. ^_^; (I got the paperback of vol. 1 at Borders because they didn't have hardcover, and I didn't know there was one, and I got the hardcover of vol. 2 at RightStuf because it was the only one they had, and I like hardcover better anyway.)
Dad says we're leaving (for dinner?) at 5, and I'm basically done here, so with that I'll call this entry finished.
P.S. Things to do when I get my paycheck Wednesday:
- ship GitS:SAC back to RightStuf for exchange
- buy blank DVDs as I have 5.3 gigs of free disk space between my two HDs
- ship San Francisco souvenirs to Mom and co.
- bring savings account balance back up to $100 and give rest to the University
P.P.S. Aww, Gainax, you so silly. I know I've noticed this before, but I don't think I've mentioned it. In KareKano during the initial "watch TV in a bright room" bit they use advanced kanji and vocab, and put furigana over even the katakana. ^_^;
