So, Szatrowski-sensei wants Johnson-san, Ikeno-san and me to do a synchronized bonryaku demae for the demonstration on 3/28. Frankly, I think this is a really tacky idea, but I guess I'll leave it up to her to judge how suitable this is, and I guess it allow us to all perform without making the people attending watching the same thing over and over like we did last year.
I'd really like to get the hakobi usucha (demae?) down before the semester ends, but it's hard to practice without a hishaku, since that's not really something I can improvise.
Actually... There are some really cheap ones on eBay. I mean, I'm sure they're not the best quality - or at least not the $10 ones - but it's better than nothing. Hmm...
Oooh, I found an obon for $15 + S&H!

Heh heh, I just got around the whole requirement to change my University password by changing it and changing it right back. I mean, I know it's a good thing to change my password regularly, but I really don't want to go through two weeks of having that much difficulty remembering my password again, especially when I still don't know it in my head, only in my fingers.

Om nom nom, nummy senbei. :)

I love Hirasawa Susumu's music muchly.

I'm pretty sure that the term "chic" does not describe the majority of people seriously interested in tea ceremony. No harm in humoring Sensei, I'm sure we're twice as tacky in any number of ways on any number of occasions.

"Chic", no, "elegant", yes. And I'm pretty sure elegant and tacky are mutually exclusive.

Okay, I totally didn't read the second part of your comment, and you're totally right about us being totally tacky in other areas. And I definitely wasn't planning on telling Sensei that I didn't like her idea.
Plus, another thing that I realized was that as long as we are performing it at the same time, I'd definitely rather be synchronized than out of synch - maybe that was her main reason.

On a different note, I wonder how much trouble it is to find someone who can teach you how to make decent-quality traditional bamboo tools yourself? The materials aren't hard to come by, but I don't know how secretive craftsmen are about it...

That's an interesting question... But the other question is how well I'd be able to make them. ^_^;
