my anime distro idea
Feb. 4th, 2008 10:58 pmI've been delaying and delaying on my fansub ethics post, and I'm not going to do it now, but here's my idea.
Hire fansubbers or the like to do legitimate work and have the episode online for $2-4 within two weeks of the air date, and then give them a $2-4 coupon per episode to buy the physical DVDs (which would include dubs at the licensors discretion). I'm no business major, so maybe this is unfeasible in ways I'm not thinking of, but I think that might be the best way to go about things, because as much as I'm willing to pay $4 an episode for download-to-own services, I'm definitely not willing to pay that on top of the cost of buying the physical DVD, which in all honesty I prefer.

It's a very attractive idea - Similar to a rent to own policy on musical instruments
Part of your rental payments are sent towards eventual purchase
