mostly MLC news
Feb. 4th, 2008 10:20 pmJust a quick one, since I have homework and sleep to do.
Got my wallet back today, minus a $20 bill. But I suppose that's still better than not getting my wallet back at all.
Went to the Sumner Library (where my internship is) to work on my lesson plan, and ended up spending basically the whole of my hour there helping Lan (the Thai woman) with her math. Got her putting in the 0s she needs, and started attempting to teach her rounding. She can pretty much round two digit numbers now, which is good, although she still gets confused. So yeah, not much lesson planning went on. I did find out they have 3 Perkins menus for me to work with, though.
Also got a list of future MLC workshops to attend to make up for the one I missed last Saturday. Unfortunately, rather than one 12-hour session on the weekend, or even two six hour sessions on Saturday and Sunday, the only options that work for me are a Tuesday and a Thursday for three hours each and a Saturday for six hours, or two Tuesdays and two Thursdays for three hours each. It'll delay my attendance by three weeks, but I'm going to go with the T,Th,S one on March 11, 13 and 15 so I don't have to miss two weeks of MAS, and also so I'll have to attend for two less school nights. I'll have to run this by my TESL prof. to make sure it's okay with him, but my internship supervisor said it's just fine with her, esp. since I'm in this class and will be learning things there. She also pointed out that there may be some advantages to going later in the semester, since I'll have a better understanding of my own classroom situation by then and thus will be able to focus more closely on the elements that will be of the most help to me.
Question, for those who made it this far: does the time delay between Japanese airing and American shelf-date have any effect on your anime purchasing habits? They keep talking about how important this is in the American industry, and I just feel that if it plays any role for me, it's definitely subconscious. The two top things affecting my purchase of a series are my wallet size, and whether I liked the series, which I can't say until I've seen the thing in it's entirety (or near it).
P.S. Boba Boca's ramen salad = ♥
P.P.S. Some Americans really have no sense of 迷惑. Especially on buses. Yes, the driver drove by your stop, and maybe you were pulling the stop cord (I didn't see the sign lit), but you really don't have to start yelling at the bus driver and getting all pissed off and yelling in front of everyone, and then tell me angrily to mind my own business when I politely say that I wanted to get off at that stop too, but no, the sign wasn't lit. (I had just assumed that the bus was going to stop there, so didn't bother to pull the cord myself, and didn't notice it wasn't until the driver started driving past the stop.)
P.P.P.S. Someone give me a neck massage? Plz?
