bad news for Newtype USA readers
Jan. 9th, 2008 07:15 pmNewtype USA to Cease Publication
......
Two thoughts:
1) Damnit, and you were the magazine that put the one I preferred, Animerica, out of print.
2) :-/ This was the premiere anime magazine in the U.S. (as far as I know, anyway), and I don't think it's ceasing publication because something bigger came out. Bad omen. :(
According to reports from those contacted by ADV, the company is planning to replace Newtype USA with another magazine. No information about the new magazine is currently known.
Hopefully that's a good sign...
The '80s are scary.
[EDIT: I'm reading some stuff in the comments on that article that make me think the situation's not so bad after all... For one, they're bringing up the point that ADV might just not want to pay licensing fees anymore, and the new magazine might be just as good but without the expensive "Newtype" name.
Actually, according to a post from AnimeCornerStore (a.k.a. Robert's Anime Corner Store): Gary Stienman has a great crew down there and I'm not aware of any staff layoffs, and they seem excited at the prospect of putting together a new publication and expanding their circulation base now that they will be free of the strings that came with the license from kodakawa. They told me that they are going to try to make something great even better. . Def. good news.]
