Christmas and more

Wow...
Anyways, I wrote a post about Christmas on my mini-computer early yesterday morning, but when I was ready to post it I stupidly and accidentally navigated away from the page and lost it, so I guess I'll re-write it.
First, let's start with the important stuff :):
- flat-screen monitor and mini-computer from Dad (these were both birthday/Christmas presents)
- His Dark Materials trilogy from Ann and Dad (I'll have to see if I can't finish The Golden Compass before it comes to the Riverview)
- lots of chocolate from Santa :)
- Happy to be Here by Garrison Keillor book from Alana
- a $500 check from Grandpa
- indirectly, a trip to San Francisco next May with Dad, Ann, and Alana from my grandpa (he gave my parents quite a big check as well, and they decided to spend it on a vacation with the four of us)
- lots of time with my family, esp. my two little cousins :)
- Dad being home 11 days in a row
- a virtual snowglobe from
lost_in_a_maze
We spent Christmas Eve at our house, and Christmas Day at my uncle's. The food both days was great, but I especially loved the crab cakes my uncle made for appetizers on Christmas Day. Too bad I only had two. :( I also saw my great-uncle I haven't seen in so long that I was a little anxious about spending time with him, but it was nice. :)
I went to the bank yesterday after scheduling an online payment of $65 to the U of MN and put $200 into my checking account and the rest into my savings account, then went to get my hair cut. As I did my last hair cut myself, I was only slightly surprised to find out it was basically cut at an angle. ><; I knew it wouldn't be good, but I just assumed it wouldn't be worse than it is when I go three years without so much as trimming it - I guess I was wrong. Anyways, it's now all one length again. :) It's shorter than I've had it in a long time, but although on the one hand I still want to aim for really long hair (I remember when it would touch my butt when I would lean my head back - that was fun), I've accepted the fact that as long as I want to be able to put my hair in a bun it needs to be relatively short, or my hair looks really stupid. One sad thing was I got it cut at one of those places where a shampoo costs extra, and granted I never actually asked for the shampoo but I thought that was the default, and once she started I felt too stupid to ask for it, so... I didn't get the glorious shampoo experience that I love so much about getting my hair cut. :( After that I went to the local library and picked up Star Trek: Generations and the first four volumes of the Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles manga. (It was the only series I was interested in that they had the first however many consecutive volumes of.
Came home and spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out what to spend my self-alloted $100 on on Right Stuf, and in the end I decided to buy some volumes of Hikaru no Go. I got volume 8, which is presently approximately half-off, volume 12, which is on pre-order and thus discounted, and volumes 1-3. It's a bit of a mish-mash, to be sure, but I figured that way I could make sure my money goes the farthest, and it's not like I don't have the whole series' fansubs burned onto DVD. In total it was $103.70.
After that me and my family and a friend of the family who's in town for a few days went to a local Mexican restaurant which had great food (for Mexican, anyway, which I've never been a big fan of). It was nice to see Diana, in any case. ^_^
So, here's what's going on for the next few days:
- hanging out with
darkjing today
- dental appointment at 8:30 tomorrow (yay, getting two cavities filled!)
-
ellie_desu coming tomorrow and leaving Sunday, weather-permitting
- dinner with my uncle Sunday
I really should include "clean my room more" in there before Ellie comes over. Seriously, my room was pretty close to clean on Tuesday, but now it's nearly back to where it was. ><; At least the huge-ass dust bunnies have been cleared from the steps. ^^;
No word from mom since that whole thing went down. Not that I really blame her... I still wonder if I should have asked if I could come over on Christmas Day, but I suppose I still have to come to the conclusion that that might have just made things worse.
