okay, so first she seems to be less ranty now that i switched to csci, but she and roger still went on for a little bit about how i'm in danger of getting my job outsourced to india, and i at least need to go into a field that focuses on on-site work (probably like networking)
i don't want to go into networking!
but that wasn't too bad
then she goes onto the topic of how i should cut my hair before i leave
cut off about three or four inches so i can put it into a clasp and make it look a bit more elegant
and she jokingly offers to have her or allie (my sister) do it, and i say no, i'd want to get it done at great clips
and both she and roger are in total disbelief at this idea, saying that i should get it done at someplace decent like ficocellos
and that i should get a nice facial or something while i'm at it and "do something nice for myself"
now, i have nothing against ficocellos, and when i lived with my mom where she paid for that stuff that's usually where i got my hair done (although she kept switching hair salons every year or two when she had one bad experience at the one she was at), but i really don't care to pay to get a simple wash and cut at a salon like that
and unless it can do something for my blackheads, i really don't care about getting a facial, whether she pays for it or not
i'm realizing once again that if i start trying to change everything to finally please her, she's just going to move on to where i buy my clothes and things like that, and it'll probably never stop

So, long story short, I'm considering cutting my hair. When I called Mom this morning to ask how much she thinks I should get cut, she said about 4". Then I started considering just cutting it to chin-length and donating it.
Blah... I don't know. Besides my stubbornness, I really like the feel of my hair on my back, and I'm kind of proud of its length, if not neccesarily it's level of health. And although hair is much easier to manage, I think my face is a much bigger cosmetic issue.


My hair is currently at about iliac length, and I think my final goal has been hip length. or possibly classic. I'm pretty sure I don't want it any longer than that. I think my mom wants me to cut it to BSL, and if I donate it I'd probably have to go for chin. (Again I'm thinking about how I might not mind going for a Yukino-esque feel, but again with my skin in the condition it is, and just with me being who I am, I don't think I'd be able to pull the whole feel off.)

I also told her that donating it to Locks of Love might take a bit too much hair off and be a /huge/ change - if she's resistant to take 4" off she probably wouldn't want to take 12" off or whatever they require for donation. It's really a decision that shouldn't be made in a matter of hours - I have friends who have been thinking about it for months or longer.

Yeah, it's a tough decision to take that much off - though nearly everyone I've known who's taken off more than 10" has loved the change afterwards. I'm a bit biased toward the "Just cut it all off" side of things at the moment partly because I'm looking to lob off all my hair in the next couple of weeks.

Note to Nastassja: Layers are NOT fancy! They are standard. You can get a pretty, layered hairstyle that will be the same amount of maintenance as a flat hairstyle and will be so much more flattering to your face.

Matt's advice is all very reasonable. I'm glad you're listening to it. Y'know, if you cut off enough to donate you'd be doing two good things (pleasing your mom and giving your hair to someone who needs it). Hair does grow back - and needing to grow it out again would mean you'd have a goal to reach for. I thought you looked adorable with short hair, btw. I say do it chin length and get layers. :)

I don't know. I don't think you should feel bullied into doing something you don't want to do. However, if you do end up going to the fancy place, they can make suggestions on what will look good on you with your face, etc.

My hair is currently bra-strap-length and I don't think I want it shorter than that for a while.

Do what feels right, but don't resist change just for the sake of resisting change.
