I spent way too much today.
So, I was hanging out with Fritzy (a.k.a.
ssofdestruction) today, going to the mall and IKEA (pronounced ee-kay-ah, because as we all know it's a German store ^_^;). First we met in Highland village, where she was depositing her paycheck. Then we go into Tea Source where I get a chocolate cream cake and iced Precious Eyebrows for myself, and I treat her to an apple fritter (?) and iced Red Berries. That's $9.01.
Then we have Subway for dinner, where I get a 12" turkey sub with extra onions, cucumbers, and green peppers on honey wheat. That's $6.71.
Then we make the bad decision to stop in Bath and Body Works...
They had Cotton Blossom body cream for $3. Between the facts that Cotton Blossom is my favorite B&BW scent, that I believe they're discontinuing Cotton Blossom, and that body cream apparently normally goes for $10.50... I bought 5.
Then I see these new Wallflowers room fragrance devices, and I buy both the starter set and a pack of two refills for $20.
They also had a 3 for 4 deal on the regular items, and as Fritzy bought 3 bottles of bubble bath she let me pick out something for myself in repayment for the tea and apple fritter thingie, so I got some Japanese Cherry Blossom body lotion (and no, I didn't get it just because it had Japanese in the name!).
So that's $37.33.
Then we finally go to IKEA to get what I actually went on this adventure to get, and picked up two Kassett magazine files and two Vink CD racks. Altogether, that's $14.89.
My grand total for the day: $67.94.
Whoops.
But it was still quite fun, and my arms smell pretty. :) (I still think I'll be making a point of packing my lunches this month.)
P.S. It's quite nice not having all my Geneon CDs sitting on the floor waiting to be stepped on anymore. Also, my dad suggested using alcohol to get of the stupid gooey crap, which actually worked quite well until I realized it was getting into the case and onto the booklet and back sheet.

Date: 2007-07-15 05:27 am (UTC)Ikea, I have never lived near one, and have never been in one, ever.
But, years ago, I heard of their web site, so visited it (maybe in 1999? Before I moved offices in 2000). Well, it sucked. They have demand, they want to sell stuff, but their site, it was hard to navigate around and above all... you can't buy stuff!
Now too, you can't buy stuff. WTF?
But then, I surfed around there and found a table with some chairs, that I wanted. So, I called the telephone number they had, on their site. No, I don't have a catalogue. No, really I don't. Yes, I understand you can mail me a catalogue... but wait. I see this table, I'm looking at it RIGHT NOW, here is the URL, yes, see? The one in the middle? Yeah, I want to buy it.
...they sold it to me :D
So, it's the one and only piece of Ikea イケア?かな? that I have. But, it's a good thing, no regrets here.

Date: 2007-07-16 03:31 pm (UTC)You should check it out some time. I mean, it may not be your thing, but if it is... Well, it's a good place to waste an hour or two of your life and make you wish you had a bigger bank account.
I'm not entirely sure why they make it so you can't buy certain items online... But I know that's not true of all of the products. Maybe because they encourage in-store customers to deliver their own products home, and so they're not really equipped to deliver the small stuff that everyone would take home on their own? I guess that doesn't make much sense either, from a business perspective.
But they do have one that's supposed to be close to Chicago (in Bolingbrook?). Actually, when they built that one my family took a road trip to Chicago more or less to go to IKEA, although there was also a Gypsy Kings concert there that we went to.
