random gender identity thoughts

Right now I'm watching a program on gender identity on TPT, and they were just talking about Billy Tipton. Now, normally I'm a proponent of referring to people as they wish to be referred, but in this case, as a woman who became a man in order to make a career for her/himself in jazz, I'm not so sure if we're really respecting this person's wishes by referring to her/him as "him". However, after I've started typing this, I hear that there is some question as to whether Billy had other reasons for becoming a man, and it seems like maybe that's the reason they're making a point of calling Billy "him".
Just a thought.

after doing some reading on the subject, I can say with absolute certainty that he wished to be called 'him' XD

Yeah, I hadn't actually *read* the Wiki entry I linked to before posting that. Partly because the program was interesting and I wanted to rush back to my couch.
