I was gonna write a long-ass entry on a bunch of other stuff, but right now... I'm too excited to even remember what all of that is!
The only thing tempering my excitement right now, though, is that I was sort-of kind-of offered a full-time job this summer at the golf course on the Saint Paul campus, and A) I am honestly a bit unsure whether I'd rather work full time during the entire summer with UDS, or work at Mori no Ike for seven (although at first I was thinking a "half" was more like three weeks, so it's not as bad now that I know it's a good chunk of the summer), and B) Steve, who's the manager for the golf course position, will probably get back to me about the specific hours and such well before I would hear the final word about Mori no Ike, meaning I'd have to get back to him well before then as well, which means... Either I'd most likely have to turn down the position at the golf course with the possibility of not getting hired at Mori no Ike at all, meaning I'd be back to doing catering all summer, or I'd have to lie to him and say I'm sure I can work the whole summer, and possibly have to tell him partway into the summer that I can't work anymore. Neither of the possibilities particularly thrill me.
But with my hopes of eventually becoming a C.A... I suppose the best thing for me to do would be to tell Steve the truth about this job possibility, hope he let's me stay on the schedule until I find out (maybe, maybe I could even find someone to "sub-let" my hours to for those seven weeks), and issho kenmei ganbaru on the rest of the Mori no Ike application process, realizing that I've already mostly passed the hurdle of them feeling that I'm qualified in terms of my resume and recommendations.
*crosses my fingers*

Okay, I might write more about the other stuff I wanted to talk about later this weekend, but for now I should probably get back to homeworking and such, especially since I just got up from a two-hour nap not long before I started typing this entry.

おめでとう!!

As someone who occasionally is involved with hiring students for tasks, I can say that at least here, as long as a standard "quit the job two weeks" is given, we understand that sometimes people quit our usual boring "it's a job" clerical type tasks to take on other opportunities that will benefit their long term actual academic goals - it's just something that happens, and we're realistic about it. If they can introduce their friends, all the better :)

Dont mean to kill your enthusiasm but...

1) That letter is by no means an indication that you're accepted or even half-way there.

2) Of the strategies you mentioned - this is the best one (btw I'm glad you thought out different scenarios, it's a really good habit):

It happens far more often than you might think.

3) Don't tell anyone at all about the potential job opportunity.

And yes, I know that it may not even mean I'm a quarter of the way towards getting the job, but I'm still happy that I got farther with the Japanese camp than with the German or English camps.

Just so you have the information in hand, the typical contract dates for Ryuuma's sessions are June 2-July 22; contracts can be offered for shorter subsections of that, but regardless of what particular session(s) you're working in, you'll almost certainly need to be up in Bemidji June 2nd or 3rd and a few days thereafter for orientation, so the portion of the summer in which you'd be out of town if you get the job is coming up in just a few weeks.

Juggling applications for possible, desirable jobs and schedules for definite, alright jobs can definitely be a pain in the rear; I've definitely gotten burned before both ways trying to figure out whether I should accept Job B right away or wait for more word on Job A with CLV the past couple summers, so I won't try to offer any advice on when you should accept one job or the other or hold out a bit longer until you can get more information on the likelihood of things going one way or the other. The good news is that if you present yourself well in your written responses and get to do the phone interview with him, Ryuuma will probably get back to you pretty quickly on whether he'll offer you a position or not, since it's getting close to the start of the CLV summer calendar.

Yeah, I checked the official contracts and saw that it was June 2 to July 22, but I didn't know that I might need to stay later or that shorter contracts are sometimes offered, so thank you.

You wouldn't need to stay later; the longest contracts that Ryuuma would ordinarily hire people for are ones that run June 2- July 22. Only kitchen, administrative, and support staff are ever obligated to show up earlier, and it's a rare event for anyone to stay later. The only way you would end up with a contract longer than those seven weeks would be if you were hired for a position that has special duties beyond counseling, or if you were hired by another dean for some other session. But it IS commonplace for contracts to be shorter, when there are positions that need to be filled during some part of the half-summer that can't be filled by someone who can stay for the entire half-summer.

Oh, I misread the and a few days thereafter for orientation bit - I suppose it doesn't make sense to have an orientation at the end of the contract.
