So... I'm thinking (thinking, thinking, I'm always thinking)...
I think I want to teach English abroad. (For some reason, teaching English as a second language sounds boring, but I think I'd like teaching it as a foreign language.)
Of course, the eternal question then comes up: Germany or Japan. Germany or Japanese. Family or passion. Citizenship or resident alien-ship.

Anyways, it seems that the U only offers courses in TESL... But I suppose I'd need to get my degree in the country I decide to teach in, anyway.
I need to work on my German...

*wanders off mumbling about Germany/Japan/Germany/Japan/...*

Aww..

Hey, I know exactly how you feel.

I just had to make a really tough decision on which course to take - Introductory German, or TESL for next semester. Either that, or drop Linguistics.

And instead, I ended up deciding to keep German. TESL can wait, and can just be gained from volunteering experience. From what I've heard from some acquaintances who've taken the class, TESL really does make a world of a difference from TEFL.

As for whether or not to go to Germany or Japan first (both countries that I equally am interested in, Japan a little more.. but Germany for more personal reasons) I decided to go for Japan first, because it's probably a bit easier to find English-taught courses at universities in Germany. I'll be heading there this December to visit a few.

But I hope that you can make a decision, too, and that it wasn't so hard! Take it easy!

Wait... Are you saying TESL and TEFL are significantly different, or that studying TESL improves ones TEFL abilities significantly?

Yeah, from what I've heard, they are. I'm saying that they are really different. Sorry for the confusion. ^_^;
