- The DVD of the second Tenchi Movie (Manatsu no IIVU): It has JAPANESE SUBTITLES! *bounces around giddily* Spent some time watching the movie last night with them turned on to practice, and it was lots of fun. :) However, I will admit that the menu was either made by a relatively well-skilled amateur or a poorly skilled professional. And as these things are general made by professionals... I'd l like to know just why it was so crappily done. (To be fair, it's possible that they thought this was a nice design, but... Seriously, do we need Microsoft Word Art?
- Sakamoto Maaya's Nikopachi: Great music! The booklet... The romanized 遠い (tooi) as toui. Quick Japanese lesson: there are romanization systems that romanize something that's technically ou as oo, so in that case I'll accept both as long as it's consistent. But you don't romanize something that's oo as ou. It's just... Ignorant. They also wrote "to i" as "toyuu", which may be a stylistic decision, but... I don't think it is. And even if it is correct to some, I don't have to like it. Finally, the stupidest thing of all: they got lyrics that were sung in English wrong, writing "I'm something else" where what is sung is "I'm somewhere else". That's just... Lazy. Why is it that professionals don't seem to be professionals anymore?
- Haibane Renmei: Why do these DVDs smell good? But oh man, so much prettiness... And I can't wait to watch them.
- Torchwood, ep. 1: Um... I'll hold off on this one for now. I wasn't paying 100% attention, and it was only the first episode, after all...
You know, I've been thinking that I'd really like to get into the anime industry, doing translation or some such, but... I'm so afraid that this is just a longer-lasting fad, and by the time I'd be hired, I'd be two years from being laid off... That's actually one reason I don't like how popular anime's become... What goes up must come down, eh?
