I'll keep it short...
Mar. 12th, 2004 09:35 amMarriage, he says, "isn't created by human contracts, but it is something that was created by God as a life long faithful partnership between a man and a woman. One of the major goals that marriage serves is to propagate the human race and to promote healthy families within that propagation, but also to model the mental faithfulness between God and his people, and Christ and his church."

Setting the "goal" of marriage of aside; if marriage is a contract with or including God, then why are atheists allowed to marry? Between atheists, this is a seriously-taken commitment to EACH-OTHER!
I know it's old news, but... This makes me feel so sad.

Date: 2004-03-12 10:13 am (UTC)Problem is, atheists don't believe in God....therefore, to them, it only IS to each other.
Once someone's eyes are opened to God, then they BELIEVE in God, and it would, of course, make sense that God is a part of it.
The reason it's a committment to each other and ONLY each other with atheists, is because they don't believe in a supreme being (or perhaps they do, but at least not God)...so why would someone that doesn't exist to them need to be part of their marriage?
Marriage is a committment involving and glorifying to God...AND a committment to each other in many ways. :)
