War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Those who have nothing left to live for and nothing left to lose but are not motivated enough to take their own hands to their life are the best pawns in war.

Because nothing is worth fighting for doesn't mean that things aren't worth pursuing and improving. The whole concept that we HAVE to fight to make the world better is a narrow minded, flawed point of view based on the premise that the fighter's way of life is right and best and must be enfoced. Most people don't (or won't) ever realize that there is no "right", just different points of view. Democracy and the American way of life is only right to us.

That being said, with respect to current events, America had a single event where 4,000 people died 5 years ago, on the other hand we've been blowing up Afghanistan and Iraq for years now and killing far more of their natives that we lost in a single event brough on by an isolated group. America seems to have become the greater terrorist in terms of shear death and destruction of lives by our own standards.
