Which of the following individuals most clearly adheres to a stereotype?
1. Vladimir, who is especially attracted to Latin-American women
2. Peter, who feels very uncomfortable interacting with African-Americans
3. Robin, who is convinced that college professors are usually impractical and forgetful
4. Cyril, who never hires people over age 50 to work in his restaurant

Patrick and I were both thinking 3, but neither of us was sure... I almost picked 4, but in the end went with 3. Good thing, 'cuz 3 was right.

My correct answer is rewarded with Wait & See~RISUKU~ on JaR. ^_^

Now to do the essay and go to din din.

Essay -
Give examples for the influence of proximity and similarity on interpersonal attraction.
Proximity:
- When equally attractive women are all sent to attend various numbers of lectures for one class, at the end of the semester the women who attended more lectures were given higher attractiveness ratings by the rest of the students in the class.
- The closer someone lives to us, the more often we see them, so the mere exposure effect causes us to like them more than someone we don't know well.

Similarity:
- Love is best sustained when the couple has many interests in common.

I typed like five words after the time expired... I wonder how the timing works, anyway. Does it just save what it was when the time ran out, regardless of when you actually hit the save button? Hmm...

I would say number 3 because you need a reason to be uncomfortable around blacks, and the only reason would be a fear based on an image you have already have (a stereotype.) You don't need a reason to be attracted to a specific race, there are logical reasons against hiring people over 50, and number 3 ... while I can't provide a good argument as to why, it just doesn't seem like a stereotype to me.

Three being the only negative behavior also makes it stand out a bit as the answer ...

Isn't 4 more negative than 3? I mean, 3 is just a thought, not an action.

#4 is based on statistical reasons though - people over 50 have more medical bills, they get sick more, they are less energetic and enduring (I know it sounds harsh but it's a fact of aging.)

#2 however you have someone who has no good reason for feeling uncomfortable around black people. That discomfort will invariably manifest in ways such as that person not giving a black person a hand or chance if the situation ever came out. That situation can manifest as that person excluding a black person from social events, etc., thus making the black person feel bad.

That's the way I look at it.

But you never know what the person who wrote the test was thinking (about people over 50).
