Has anyone ever wished their fish would just hurry up and die so you wouldn't have to feel guilty about how poorly you take care of it? So much that you almost wish you could just flush it down the toilet, but you don't want it to suffer on the way down so you wish you could electrocute it first, except that you would want someone else to do this all while you're not looking?

i think u are reading too much into it. she feels bad her fish isn't getting treated as well as she would want it. so she thinks it would be better off dead and dying quickly but she cares for her fish so much she doesnt want to hurt it. i don't think u can really equate it to children in this context but that is just my opinion.
