Ok, Doctor Who needs subtitles, 'cuz I don't understand that crazy England-speak.
Also, what was that "Thanks." "Thanks for what?" "Excactly."
And what does the fact that the... um... phone box... travels through time have to do with anything? That she can be back with... um... her boyfriend at the end of their travels together?

Lots of ums...

No... It's not so much a problem with the slang as actually not being able to understand the sounds properly, especially when they're talking quietely and/or quickly. But thanks for the offer. ^_^

Ah, words I don't think to use - it's the accent that I have trouble with.

ahhh yes, the Northern accent Eccleston has, combined with the Southern accent Billie Piper has, must seem terribly confusing, as both accents are pretty strong.

Why can't they all speak the BBC accent we Americans are used to, huh?

:P!

There's a lot of different versions of english spoken even within the U.K, it can be really mind bending to try and understand someone from Glasgow or Newcastle if you're from down south.

Makes sense. Are there any "dialects" (I don't know if the differences are enough to merit that term, but whatever) that you just need to turn on closed captioning for?

Nah, because in this country we're exposed to the differences quite a lot. Either in TV programs or the radio or similar.
But regional slang can be a problem. There's a lad from Glasgow in my class who uses a lot of slang, and I have NO idea what he's talking about a lot of the time, I have to ask him for explainations XD

Doctor Who lives in its own little world. I didn't really get into it until very recently, when Christopher Eccleston was playing the lead role.

Near as I can tell, the good Dr. is the last of a race of time traveling aliens. He's a good guy, although he's a little odd. You know, alien and all that. There's some bad guys, too. I'm a little fuzzy on this, but apparently the bad guys are time traveling robots. And they want to do bad things to the flow of time. I don't know if they want to destroy the universe or control it, but they do whatever it is that they want to do by going to different points in time and futzing about with things to result in their objective being met. The Doctor and his friends spend most of their time trying to counter the evil time traveling robots.

I think.

As far as the accent goes, it can be a challenge. We're all speaking English, but apparently we're not all speaking the same language :-)

By "what does the fact that the... um... phone box... travels through time have to do with anything", I meant why did Rose decide to go with him after he said that.

Oh right. I figured it was a "What the hell, why not?" sort of thing.

Dude, I think you're thinking waaaaaaay too hard about what's going on. It's not supposed to be that difficult to understand. Try watching the episode over again. I'm vaguely remembering the "Thanks" "thanks for what?"... exchanges you speak of, and I think it's supposed to be a joke about how the Doctor knows the future and knows he's helped some way but Rose or whoever else can't detect it. Just enjoy the show!!!
