Bandai Ordered to Pay for Child's Choking on Toy Capsule
As I stated in my post in the forum, I think this is total B.S. Now, I'm totally for changing the requirements for the shapes of the capsules and requiring air holes - I think that's a wonderful idea! And even making the capsules a little bigger isn't bad. But suing them even though they followed federal guidelines is beyond bullshit.
So, yesterday was incredibly fun.
carve037 (Vinny) and
eurohybrid62 (Alex) got here at about 10:30 or 10:45, and we started watching Fushigi Yuugi pretty early. Alex hadn't seen any of the episodes yet, and Vinny had seen maybe half of the episodes we watched. It ended up getting a bit Mystery Science Theater, but since the subs were on I don't feel bad about that. I did feel like a kind of bad hostess, since I actually fell asleep through chunks of it (having already been up for 16 hours does that to you), but hopefully I was awake enough to not piss Vinny and Alex off. :-/ And then there's the concern of whether I can really say I've re-watched the first 11 eps on MAL. :-P
At around 3:45 we finished episode 11 and starting Vinny started packing up to go home. The ice cream truck then came by, so I decided to get some for my sore throat and Vinny and Alex followed suit. I don't actually remember what Vinny got, but Alex and I got a new mango fruit bar which I thought was delicious. We then sat on the front steps to the sidewalk while we waited for Vinny's mom to pick him up, and Alex and I sat a bit longer as I finished my fruit bar and we talked about what our plans were for the rest of the day.
In the end we went to Midori's for dinner, where I spent entirely too much money. Alex got saikoro-donburi at my recommendation as well as cherry green tea, and because I couldn't decide between the saikoro-donburi and zaru-soba... I got both. ><; As well as some iced mugicha to drink. We were both going to get an ume onigiri to go, but that ended up taking so long that we had to leave without it (but we didn't pay for it).
So between dinner running longer than expected and because I had forgotten the direction to the theater at home, we ended up arriving at the theater at 7:35, but luckily neither of us missed anything we hadn't seen before. On the other hand, I happened to be the only one who could retrieve Sandy and Sarah's tickets, and they hadn't seen it yet, so... They missed the first 10 minutes. ^^; I also felt bad since they got there at 6:30, but luckily the staff let them in to play DDR so it wasn't completely boring for them to wait. And since I can't think of any other place to put this, considering dinner I naturally didn't get any concessions, although I did end up sneaking in my bottle of iced green tea that I had with me.
The movie itself was actually pretty well dubbed, IMO. Especially after watching parts of Devilman at the craptacular, I really appreciated how well the movie was lipsynched, which is always hard for live action. (Also, even watching Fushigi Yuugi yesterday there were a few bad spots in even the Japanese audio track, and that was both animated and the original dubbing track.) The biggest complaint I had was that there was a reasonable amount of crucial on-screen text that they didn't translate. Like, I can understand not translating every single text message, I guess, but still... (Honestly, I can't think of any examples off the top of my head right now.) Then I guess a more minor complaint - the making-of featurette was amazingly uninformative. :(
So after the movie we played a little bit of DDR, and then Alex gave me a ride home. After being up so long I was able to go to bed at midnight - YAY - and I woke up at noon - DOUBLE YAY! And then I went back to bed until 4:30. ><; So much for fixing my sleep schedule by getting together with friends. Oh well, hopefully this upcoming weekend of sightseeing will do the trick.
[EDIT: Yay for figuring things out on my own! I was listening to O-uchi ga Ichiban - wonderful ver.- from the O-uchi ga Ichiban single, and I thought the singer (Itou Masumi) sounded like the one from Oranges & Lemons, and looking up the Oranges & Lemons wiki article I found out that I was right! Also, Maigo no Maigo no... is a cute song. :)]
