Must bring that grade up.
Oct. 23rd, 2006 10:11 pmSo... It was nice to be back in chadou today, even if I have fallen a bit behind. Anyways, Prof. Szatrowski graciously spent a lot of time during class helping me out (so sue me, I feel the need to use keigo right now - so what if it sounds stuffy in English?), so I've caught up a little bit. Also got my fukusa ("a square, silk cloth used for ritual cleaning of tea equipment and for handling hot lids", sayeth Wikipedia) for practicing with and brought it home with me to practice folding with. The tea ceremony itself, as usual, was wonderful. I wonder if there's some way we could hold a tea ceremony demonstration at meeting... Because I honestly feel like it's a sort of Meeting for Worship with Attention to Tea. Or something...
Got my Japanese grade today. 88.14%. :-/ I guess I just need to prepare extra well for the oral interview, and just work harder in general.
For the breakdown, that's 8.33/10% in attendance, 11.62/15% on homework (although I had a few pieces of homework I had forgotten to turn in that I just did today, so that should help), 1.9/2% on MP2 (the first two parts of a project we're working on), 7.83/9% on vocab quizzes, 6.84/7 on kanji quizzes, 3.56/4% on dialog checks (><; - must work on that), 27.68/30% on tests, and 1/1% on our one-minutes speeches (of which I'm doing another on Wednesday - is the second one extra credit?). 私、頑張ります。 (I'll work hard.)
Anyways, went up to the Japanese office after class today to make up a quiz I missed on Monday and also asked Morita-sensei some questions I'd been collecting. She was very helpful. ^_^ I also chatted with Morita-sensei and Fujimoto-sensei a bit about the package I received!!! (more on that later), and while Fujimoto-sensei said she didn't understand anime, Morita-sensei said "but I do, so if you have any questions, come to me". ^_^ I also asked Morita-sensei if she was familiar with Master Keaton, and she said that although she hasn't watched it, apparently Emmett-sensei's husband is a big fan of the show.
While I was up there I also found a pamphlet for this. Japanese + linguistics + in Germany (where I can hopefully become fluent in German, and where I'll get super-cheap tuition, assuming grad school is super-cheap there too) = sweet! The program itself is in English, though I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing...
So, yeah, PACKAGE!!! My 10-er arrived at Pat's house the other day and I had him bring it to Coffman today. Yay-ness!!!! I already half-listened to angela's I/O album (I was in and out of the room while listening to it), but I must say... There are a lot of duplicate tracks between the four Eva CDs I ordered, to say nothing of the 12 versions of Fly Me to the Moon on the third O.S.T.. ^_^; Ah well, me's happy. :)
Finally, on a negative note... Apparently my grandpa fainted today or yesterday (I forgot), and they think it has to do with his low heartbeat that he's always had. We've considered it an indication of good heart health, but apparently it's causing problems of its own, and they're probably gonna put in a pacemaker. (Had to give that a second glance to make sure I didn't type peacemaker. ^_^;) Ill health of elderly family members makes me uneasy...
では、劇場版「ああっ女神さまっ」を見に行くわ。日本語のフラッシュカードを作りながら。
(Well, then, I'm off to watch the Ah! My Godess movie. While making Japanese flashcards.)
