I seem to recall a fable written by Peg Bracken about that, to the effect that the Goat shopped early (in September) and bought his friend the Owl a new megaphone, the Pig a pair of trousers, and the Worm a new back end (since he'd lost one in a lawnmower accident).
In early December, the Goat visited his friends and found that the Pig had lost thirty pounds on his new diet, the Owl was proud as a peacock of the new electronic megaphone he had just bought and the Worm had grown a new rear end.
