Any input on how 爽風 (the name of a song) is pronounced? I was guessing "sawakaze", but I've seen a lot of "soufuu" out there. WWWJDIC gives me girls' names, and ALC gives me nothing.

Normal reading as a word the first thing that comes to mind is そうふう and it's used like that for quite a few product names, but the song apparently is さわかぜ according to a bunch of links hits.

lulz - I was slightly surprised that you were the only one to respond, but shrugged it off since it probably didn't really need more than one reply. Only now did I realize that I had posted this to my own journal - that explains it. BTW, do you have any recommendations for a 日本語関係の辞書 for an iPhone that can only access the internet over WiFi?

Just Japanese related dictionaries?

I have several, they are all self-contained and so don't even need the internet AT ALL (so you've got essentially a 電子辞書 even when you're completely out of range of anything at all).

Mind, they're entire books, so they are definitely not free.

Main ones I have are:
(1) 明鏡国語辞典 from 大修館書店
(2) 大辞林
(3) 類語国語辞典 from MONOKAKIDO (It's the contents of the 角川類語新辞典) - I was thrilled to find any electric version of this at all since the paper version is kinda a pain to use
(4) 漢字源4 from LogoVista

I got them from the Japan iStore.

To do that, you need to make an account over there and then use GIFT CARDS to pay for it (a US credit card will be rejected). You can't buy the gift cards in person here, either (like at Best Buy), they have to be bought in Japan.

However! People sell the numbers online. One easy location is a page "nihongoperapera.com," they have a form and everything, you just click what value of card you want and pay via Paypal, the guy mails you the numbers within 24 hours, then you just apply them in your account on the iStore. Yeah, there's a markup :P

Alternatively maybe some of those apps are available from the US store now, but I don't know.

If you're in a WiFi zone, of course, you can use the various websites with dictionaries for free.

But, I'm happy to have bought the electric version of the self-contained books, it's exactly the books I use, they all have quite nice fonts, and so I don't need to have a separate 電子辞書 anymore.

I always buy my Japanese iTunes cards through J-List, although I wonder if they work for apps too... How much space do they take, btw? And what's the difference between 明鏡国語辞典 and 大辞林?

If it's Japanese iTunes cards, it's all the same they'll work yeah. I just didn't know if you were doing that already or not (I should check the JList prices too, probably!).

明鏡国語辞典 and 大辞林 are just two different dictionaries. Probably my favorite is 明鏡 (it's popular now, gets cited a lot, and has lots of examples is the main thing) but 大辞林 sometimes has words that the other one doesn't, also 大辞林 has the pitch markers.

For some reason goo quit carrying 大辞林, it's now hosted over at weblio though (if you are ever looking up pitch information on line).

Space:
明鏡国語辞典 is 47.6 MB
大辞林 is 142.3 MB
角川類語新辞典 is 26.2 MB
漢字源 is 83.1 MB.
