Wait, I don't need to diet?
Dec. 31st, 2010 12:59 pmSo today at the end of my walk/run I realized that I could guage how much of my embarrassing 1.5-2 inch protrusion of stomach is muscle and how much is fat by tensing the muscles and poking at it, and found that, really, it's maybe 1/3 inch of fat. Which, honestly, I can live with just fine. So my whole thing about how I need to go on an honest-to-god burn-more-calories-than-I-eat diet? Yeah, not so much. (Although I still need to go on an honest-to-god where-the-hell-are-your-fruits-and-vegetables, stop-eating-so-god-damned-much-candy diet). BUT. I still have an embarrassing protrusion of stomach which, at this point, could probably use at least a few sessions with a trainer so I can figure out the best way to turn lots (?) of muscle into muscle that is more-or-less flush with my ribcage. And maybe I can get arms that are able to do at least a single pull-up while I'm at it? So I'm going to start looking into gyms/trainers around the area and see what I can fit into my schedule/budget.
Speaking of the run, though, Dianne was working in the kitchen today so I decided to do my run outdoors. Now, it's kind of nice in that I can adjust my pace however I want it (it's damned near impossible to set easily set the perfect walking speed on a treadmill), but it's also hard to motivate myself to keep to the 3.5 mph which is my standard walking speed on the treadmill. Also, despite moving up to the larger earbuds, they kept falling out of my ears whenever I tried to jog. So if I'm going to do more outdoor jogging (which I'll do regardless of my need for weight loss or lack thereof - my endurance is crap and I could use the aerobic/cardiovascular exercise), I'll need to invest in a pair of headphones that won't fall out of my ears every 50 feet. Or else I can leave my iPod behind, but... What can I say, I grew up in a multi-tasking generation. The only time I can handle no media input is when I'm sitting in meeting. (Why is that, anyway? I guess my brain's just manage to wire itself such that that's "relax and listen to the small sounds" time.)
