El... Jay...? What is this?
I was going to post some Tweets, but instead I decided to make a short LJ post. At Union Station on my way home from a northwest suburb of Chicago. Me and my friend Mike came up here early(ish - left around 9 am?) Saturday to see a Klingon Christmas Carol. Or really, he didn't mind going with me, especially since I was going to go anyway, and he figured it'd be a good opportunity to visit his family in said suburb. On the way to his family's place we went to Mitsuwa, of course. ^_^ I actually didn't get much at all - couldn't find any manga or books I *particularly* wanted at Sanseido (!!), but I did buy two soybean-shaped chopstick rests and a pair of chopsticks in a travel case at a little cooking goods set-up. Mostly, though, I got a number of little snacks at the grocery store (youkan, a 500 mL bottle of Bull Dog Sauce, a bottle of jasmine tea), then we got some meronpan with chocolate chips, Doraemon-themed kasutaadopan, anpan with black sesame seeds, and my first kareepan (which would've been better hot, I'm sure), as well as two trays of sushi. So basically, we were uter gluttons. But to be fair, we didn't finish it all, AND I was good enough to not go get some *real* raamen as well. Unfortunately after we'd already gone to Sanseido and were in the grocery store I realized I wanted to ask Elizabeth if she wanted anything and called her about it, but by the time we finished eating... I totally forgot to check for it. ><; Gomen!
After around two hours at Mitsuwa we finally went on to Fox River Grove (the suburb I've been talking about) to spend time with his family, who are all really nice and fun to talk with, and eventually we went out to dinner at an Italian restaraunt with his grandma, who is advancing in her dementia (Alzheimers). At first I thought it would be awkward, but as bad as this sounds, looking back on it I think part of why I had a very good time at dinner was because I rather... forgot she was there. ^^; In any case, both Mike and I were rather stuffed from Mitsuwa so we each got a salad and drink, which neither of us finished - he pointed out that we really would have been better splitting a salad. But whatevs, we finished them after coming home from the play.
The play itself was quite a bit of fun, if a bit hokey. The Kahless Past (the ghost of Christmas past-type character) was awesome - I should've seen it coming, but it was a TOS-style ridgeless Klingon. TimHom (Little Tim) was a puppet, and rather terrifying... All-in-all, though, it was totally worth the $34 I paid for it.
Okay, gotta go to the bus stop. Logging out for now.
