I'm planning on voting for Kerry, but this worries me.

You're not voting for Kerry. You're voting against Bush.

Feel better now? ;-)

That's the worst way to consider the issue. A vote for anyone not Bush is a vote against Bush, be it Kerry, Dean, Buchannan, Forbes, me, ... or anyone who fits the criterion of not being George Bush. Do you seriously suggest voting for anyone not Bush is better than voting for Bush?

I seriuosly suggest that you or I would make a better President than the Shrubmeister (or no worse).

He's pathetic and I want him gone. He's dowuright dangerous. I had my preferences amongst those vying for the Democratic nomination and Kerry was not among them but when it came down to it, it didn't matter that much. I didn't dislike any of them and knew that any would be better than Shrub.

You didn't answer my question. It's not just a matter of the people I listed. Your criterion says *anyone* -- Michael Badnarik, for example -- would be a better president than Bush. Do you actually believe that? Do you believe out of all the people in the whole world, Bush is the single worst possible option?

OK, if you want to get that technical, than no. The average first-grader would probably be worse.....

It's not technical at all. To ignore Kerry's numerous flaws and blindly propell him into office on the simple fact he's "not Bush", a label he shares with nearly everyone in the world, is as stupid and shortsighted as voting for Bush in the first place. After all, Badnarik is "not Bush"; he's a lot smarter than Bush; he shares fewer policy positions with Bush than Kerry does, almost certainly. But I believe, policy-wise, he would be considerably worse for America than Bush is.

Judge Kerry by Kerry's history, policies, and positions; you're certainly judging Bush by Bush's.

I'm afraid I don't know Michael Badnarik is. But yes I do concede there are a plenty who could be worse than Shrub, but there are also many who could be far better.

I've been voting since 1980. I've never missed a Presidential election. I've only voted "for" one Presidential candidate (twice) and that was Bill Clinton. The other votes? They were against the Republican candidate...

Kerry has flaws? Shocking! That's reason enough not to vote for him. Why couldn't the dems have gotten us a "perfect" candidate? Because one doesn't exist, that's why.

I'll admit I'm not happy about what Nastassja linked to above. In fact I'm rather dissapointed about it. But honestly from everything I've seen and heard, I have no qualms about voting for Kerry. He's flawed, but who isn't. But he's flawless compared to Shrub.

So far the only thing I've been troubled about with regard to Kerry is the link that started this converstion. Other than that, I'm cool with him. The "flaws" I had issue with are otherwise trivial and have nothing to do with his ability to be President.

This take me back to my original point. Shrub is the worst President of my lifetime (and that includes Nixon) and he's got to go.

He's the Liberatarian canidate, and he's a complete dumbass. He wants to cut or reduce funding to, like, eeeeverything!! Seriously. I was reading about the policy changes that he wants, and he wants to eliminate government funding to education, welfare, planned parenthood, international aid, everything. I read it, and I was like "...okay, if he reduces or ends funding for =everything= as he reported that he'd like to do, what the hell is he going to do with the money?!".

Anyway, yes.

My personal thought on the voting thing is this:

Bush may not be great, but it kinda makes me sick to think that Kerry is the best candidate we have to offer, and though I think Bush has made some mistakes, but he's done some good things, too, and he's doing what he feels is the right thing to do. On the other hand, I don't even think Kerry knows what he's going to do when he's elected. If I thought that the other candidate had an actual platform, or *something*, I would have no problem voting for them. At least we know where Bush stands on any given issue... Kerry seems to be more dangerous to us if he were in power than Bush.

To be honest, I think the Bush-hating is mostly a fad - it's the 'in' thing to do. There are things that all presidents will do to tick us off, and the next one, whoever it is, will be no different.

Amen. I'm a liberal - almost socialist - myself, but this Bush-bashing is stupid.

If it makes you feel better, Bush didn't fill out an NPAT either. Both major candidates are clearly being wankers here.

But aren't all politicians?

I'd say ignore him and his refusal to say anything worthwhile except he might be the next president making waffles in the white house.

Good luck this election day. It's a hard election. All candidates are wankers. So which wanker do you choose?

Right in Gandalf. :)

Where to start?? There are several places you can find where Kerry stands on the issues. The best is probably his webpage: John Kerry's Webpage

Also you can compare the candidates on the issues here: Comparing Kerry and Bush on the Issues

If you ever have a question, I have an answer so feel free to e-mail me or whatnot. A vote for Kerry is ~not~ just a vote against Bush, it's a vote for a better America. I don't think people should select Kerry just because they think "anyone but Bush", they should be informed before they make any kind of a decision.
