It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

I appreciate the sentiment and will participate, but won't repost because the families of the minors involved didn't consent to their photos being used; and in at least one case, the student wasn't abused. I'm sure the originator meant it with the best of intentions... but she didn't think things through entirely...

I think there's another poster on Facebook that that Brittany girl made because she didn't know how to get in touch with the families. It's a cool idea, though! And I'm glad it's getting spread around so much :)
