Oh, I forgot to ask an important question in my poll last night: what if your wage was DECREASED by 20%?

If my salary were decreased that much, it would probably eliminate our ability to pay the nanny- so at that point, I would probably quit my job altogether.

That's why we had unions, once.

Actually, that's part of why I ask. My econ classes talk about how increases in minimum wage increase unemployment, but one of the two issues I have with this is that it assumes that the more someone earns, the more hours one will want to work.

Yeah, I don't really buy that. But moreover, the assumption I have a problem with is that, like, the moneyed elites are paying you a low wage because they have to, and would have to hire less people otherwise. An employer is going to pay you the lowest wage they possibly can, regardless of whether they have the funds to do otherwise.

Certainly, but the degree of people's willingness to work does play into what "the lowest wage they possibly can" is.

Ugh, gross. If an employer treated me like that, I'd cut as many hours out of my schedule as feasible, so I'd have time to go job-hunting. New job found, old job would be promptly quit.
