thoughts on Sailor Moon "filler"

So, I'm actually spending about five minutes beginning my list of "Sailor Moon episodes that actually matter", and in the process I'm discovering that it's more difficult than it sounds, since if one only watches these episodes, they'll be left wondering who certain characters are, or confused about sudden changes in their personality. To eliminate that confusion, I'd probably have to cut only maybe 30 or 40% of the episodes, vs. my preferred 70-ish%. That isn't exactly saying that those episodes are less pontless than they seem. It's more like... If tthey really wanted to tighten the series, they should have eliminated or at least merged some of the characters, so those "important scenes" could respectively be eliminated or merged into episodes with other actual content.
I dunno, when I next re-watch the series I'm going to take proper notes on each episode and try to really pull things together. Maybe if I get super ambitious I'll even try my hand at some video editing and stitch together some of the valuable scenes onto other ones?
Also, the bit in episode 87 with Naru showing that she knows something going on with Usagi-tachi... I definitely did not remember that, and I quite liked it. Reminded me of the scene in PGSM where Usagi transforms in front of Naru, and Naru's reaction - esp. her reaction when she becomes Princess Sailor Moon.

[EDIT: OMG, why do rose stems cut through fucking EVERYTHING, even energy blasts? Fucking Tuxedo Mask.... I want to call you useless, but the real problem is that the opposite is true. Just... go away and stick to your roles as Chiba Mamoru and Prince Endymion.]

[EDIT 2: So, I'm watching what's essentially the last episode of Sailor Moon R, and the climactic battle scene is beginning, when I hear a song start to play that my brain decides is La Soldieri. Then the lyrics start. It's La Moon, from SeraMyu! Well, I suppose SeraMyu's La Soldier is actually from Sailor Moon R, but... It's still a pleasant shock to hear a great SeraMyu song during the anime. <3]

It just occurred to me that I've never watched much of R aside from the beginning with Ail and Ann, with which I grew disinterested. That's probably because when I was really into it, there wasn't much Sailor Moon available aside from those really expensive DVDs (and that was at the tail end of my fanaticism, so I never bothered to buy them). I have a few episodes of the R dub on DVD, but they strike me as interesting, and since it was before the dubbing switched from DIC to Cloverway, a lot of stuff is cut out.

My favorite season by far is S. It's darker in theme, and some religious overtones are present - i.e. Hotaru on a cross, the Messiah of Silence, etc. Wasn't a fan of the S movie much at all, but the rest is totally awesome.

Yeah, my favorite seasons are S and Stars, although I liked the R movie best, followed by SuperS and then S.
