"David and Amy are setting the table and Peter and Lauren and Victor and Maxine and Kyle are circling and Maxine is wondering where Ignacio is. Suddenly he’s there. Maxine introduces them both to the rest of the family, and Amy discovers that Ignacio’s mama wants her plate hot. Maxine is trying to make everyone comfortable, and introductions begin. Mama wants to know if David is the father, but he says that he’s Victor’s father and Amy’s friend, and Victor is Lauren’s friend, and Peter is Maxine’s son and Amy’s brother, and Kyle’s cousin, and “what happened to you?” “Knife fight.” Where’s everyone’s husband? Dead, divorced, separated, whatnot. Ignacio tells his mother to lay off, and they start arguing in Spanish. Lol, the Gray family always makes such a good impression on the uninitiated. “You stay away from my son!” Mama finally yells, and Maxine looks shocked, and the others look around, unamused. She runs to get the gravy. Amy runs to get wine. Maxine is crying… no, no, I’m pretty sure she’s laughing.
