I just installed the memory [livejournal.com profile] eurohybrid62 got me. I still can't play the higher-end video files I tested out (although there may be a threshold here and I went just a bit too far), so I'm thinking for that I should get a new video card. However, my computer is now delightfully non-sluggish. I love how quickly programs open now. :) I still haven't tried to burn anything yet - I'll do that tonight after all my torrents finish. Well, tonight, anyway - it'll be a while until they finish.

Now that I'm all caught up, I can answer your question. Cristina and Meredith were fighting over the whole "Interns go crazy and do surgery by themselves" thing, since Meredith didn't stand up for Cristina and let her take the fall for the entire situation. 8-)

Good to hear the memory works and that nothing blew up XD For the higher-end video, your computer's hopeless, since a new video card won't help. It's the CPU that's limiting it, and since your CPU is so old, it's not worth the trouble. A new computer will be your best bet.

I'm kind of thinking of just replacing each part of the broom rather than buying a new one entirely. Like, start by buying both a new CPU and video card. Would that be cheaper? Stupider?

That CPU isn't even available anymore to buy, and it'd be really stupid since it's at least 4 generations old. Not to mention it's a lot of work that's not really worth it. The video card I wouldn't advise replacing on your machine since it won't help. Why not just get a whole new machine? You can get a pretty good desktop for about $600, and it'd be leaps and bounds better than what you have. Even a $400-$500 machine would be a lot better.

Why would I need to buy the same CPU?

Because a new-generation CPU won't be compatible with your motherboard, and if you try to force it in, bad things happen. The pin arrangement and number of pins on the CPU is different for different generations of CPUs.

Ahh, I see. Well then, yeah, I probably should just save up for a new PC.
