thermometer calibration
Dec. 7th, 2008 02:18 amUgh... I'm pretty sure my thermometer is a good 30 degrees F higher than it should be. I can't be sure without an accurate thermometer, but the ice water I put it in sure read warm, and the freshly boiled water was off-the-scale (which ends at 220). I'll have to find a suitable tool for adjusting it, or maybe I'll just be lazy and take it in to Tea Source and have them do it for me.
You know, I thought my first brews have been tasting a little weak... Although it's always possible I'm imagining it out of my suspicion.
Actually, I just grabbed some sort of pliers from the basement and tried to adjust it, only to find two problems:
1) These pliers, at least, won't move the needle
2) The thermometer only goes down to 60 F, meaning I'll have to callibrate it at boiling, and I'm not entirely sure where "boiling" is in terms of the water heating cycle on the electric kettle.
Guess "take it in to Tea Source" it is.
