Re-watching Get Backers, it's really striking how absurd a few of their abilities are. Like, most I can suspend my disbelief fairly easily on, but the way Kazuki manages to put up all these threads without even moving from his position, or even making a visible move, and Ban's similar ability to leap up, land a heavy punch on a guy two or three yards away, and return to his original position and make it look like he isn't moving an inch... Yeah, no, this isn't supernatural, this is downright physics defyment. ^^; Also, it's amazing the things you can do by making metal alloys in zero gravity. ^^;
Anyways, out of curiosity:
[Poll #1302806]
[EDIT 3: I really worded option B poorly. I meant "I recognize its grammaticality in other dialects".]

[EDIT: You know, I'm sure I posted this before, but whatever, it's funny:
Well, only if you've seen Fafner.]

[EDIT 2: Seriously, the second half of Ouran is coming out January 6th? Fast releases are fast! I'm definitely excited for this. :) Of course, since realizing that I'm only scheduled to work 53.25 hours between now and Dec. 6th... Well, let's just say I'll need to be adjusting my budget. ><; The best part is that the new guy is getting 64.25, which I can only assume is because of, well, our respective performance at work. Blah...]

I chose option C, but really, it *doesn't* bug me to hear it. I don't speak that way, but why should I care how other people speak so long as I understand them and they understand them? My real choice is in between B and C. I don't recognize it's grammaticallity in my dialect - that's one reason I don't use it. So I can't use B. But it doesn't bug me either!

I guess I should have re-worded B, but that's what I meant "I recognize it as grammatical in other dialects".

Since when are pet peeves about being rational?

Good point.

And some things other people do to the English language *do* bug me. I sigh, I talk about logic to myself - but when all is said and done, I still think they're ugly/clarity removing/silly.

I know I have a degree in Linguistics and everything but "I borrowed him a book" is absolutely horribly wrong and it grates my nerves to hear people say it. It is not a transitive verb and it cannot mean "lend". That's what we have "lend" for! XD

I'm in kind of a weird place with it, because while I didn't grow up using it, and I don't think I do it, it seems kinda cool to me, in that it's uniquely Minnesotan. I identify pretty strongly with my state, so I get a little defensive about our dialects. Don't get me started on my high school psychology teacher who would yell at us for using "you guys". I really wanted to tell that New Agey fucktard to gb2/cali/.

...

What did he want you to say when referring to more than one person at a time?

It's not youse, it's not y'all, it's not yinz, and you sure weren't about to resurrect thou to make that distinction, so...?

There's always "you".

Yes, but sometimes you really want to distinguish between you and you.

Did the teacher say that for gender-equality reasons or grammar Nazi reasons?

Gender equality reasons; she wanted us to say "y'all" during our presentations on mental health to the little kids at the health fair. Naturally, I kind of did what I wanted.
