Let me tell you a little story about work today.
I offered to work 7-3 at catering. I got up at 5:30, caught the bus to work, curled up in a little corner of the Coffman kitchen to wait until 7, and was told I couldn't lay (lie?) there, so I should go find the break room. Couldn't find the break room, so I laid (lied?) on the couches by the bowling alley and set my iPod's alarm for 6:55. A couple minutes later I got this scenario in my head to let me get a little more sleep without getting in much trouble. I would turn off my iPod, and just sleep until I got a call on my cell from my manager around 7:30 asking where I was. I would then say "Oh, I'm sorry, I fell asleep on the couches downstairs; I'll be right up!"
Woke up around 11:30 with no such call. Couldn't very well show up then. Went home.
Why do I do things like this to myself? I mean, considering the type of shift it was (just prep, I got to decide when I wanted to go in and I said 7) I definitely hurt myself more than catering management (which is good, actually). But this means I make $50 less than I could have, and there's no way I'm going to offer to take any more catering shifts before fall semester starts.
On the plus side, at least this wasn't at the job that "matters". I'm still in good standing there. Well, except for the key issue, which I still haven't found. That's either gonna put me in lots of trouble, or mean serious deductions from my paycheck. Or both. I suppose I should spend more time looking for that today, but I don't think I'll find it.
