tsukikage: (Hikki - Don't Go)

You know, [livejournal.com profile] lugia222's recent post made me realize something:

The idea of wearing business attire, either formal or casual, is complete alien to me. I mean, I can sort of handle having to wear black dress pants when I work catering shifts, but I think those pants aren't appropriate for business formal, and, well, if I had to dress that nicely every day I'd have to make a serious shopping trip to Target. But anything but the most casual business attire? I wouldn't even know where to start, for one, and for two, once I got a wardrobe together I would feel awkward as all heck for probably at least a month after starting the job.

I guess this is what you get for being raised in a church where it's not inappropriate to wear jeans and a t-shirt to weddings (although many people dress up a little bit), and both parents dress as casual as allowed at their jobs.

I have this vague feeling that I'm doing something not-so-good to my digestive system lining by drinking so much tea on a not-full-enough or even empty stomach. It's like... Sometimes my upper throat feels... fizzy? It's a really hard feeling to describe, but I tend to imagine it's because of the occasional acid reflux I get after I drink a lot of tea on an empty stomach.
But don't lots of young'ns drink lots of pop on empty stomachs without problems? And that's way more acidic that green tea. Maybe my problem (if I do indeed have one) is being caused by something else.

Sooo, better report on last night.

To start off with, I didn't get ready in time so I had to call Sandy and tell her I was going to be arriving about 40 minutes later than I originally intended. Then, again due to poor planning/decision making on my part, I ended up really cutting it close to missing the next bus, so I rushed out the door with more stuff in my hands than in my bag and my shoes not properly on, much less tied, and promptly fell over and scraped up my left knee and right elbow rather well, not to mention tore a hole in the left knee of my jeans. And because I still thought I might be able to make the bus and I was already late, I decided to just keep heading to the bus, which I managed to make. So I then commuted on public transportation with a hidden bleeding knee and a visible bleeding elbow, neither of which I was able to disinfect, for about 70 minutes, and then when I got to the bus stop by Sandy's place she said her grandpa was in the McDonald's at the stop and was treating us, giving me another 20-ish minutes of dirty bleeding. ^_^; But I appreciated the food. :) So, yeah, as soon as I got to her place I borrowed a pair of her jeans, went into her bathroom, and cleaned/disinfected myself as best I could.

After that she showed me various videos on YouTube, including this wonderful one:

I think "trash" is my new favorite word. ^_^;

After a bit I started going over the aisatsu and chapter 1 of Genki, which was basically "You get this?" "Yeah." "And this?" "Yup." "How do you say this?" "*insert correct Japanese here*", plus a bit of practicing pronunciation using the audio files and going over the workbook with her. So I basically told her, "Okay, before next time I come over, learn all the vocabulary you don't already know, practice all the audio, and do all the kana worksheets for chapters 1 and 2." Because really, there's no need for her to do that when I'm around. I did jump ahead a little bit and teach her how to properly conjugate the -masu form, and jumped ahead even more and taught her how to conjugate the -nai form. So it wasn't a completely worthless session.

And then her grandpa took us to the Bleach movie. As I said before, I gave up on Bleach after getting to maybe episode thirty-something and them still not having gotten Rukia back, but I figured the movie would have all the enjoyment of the series without the taking forever to do anything. (See, in DBZ it takes ten episodes to screw in a light bulb, but in Bleach they have 1000s of light bulbs to screw in before the primary objective can be met.) And guess what? It really was enjoyable, in fact even more than I was expecting.

I don't remember why, but at the beginning of the movie I mentioned to Sandy that one aspect reminded me of the first Tenchi movie, and she agreed, saying that in fact there are a lot of similarities between the two movies. Which was true. Take big giant cannon they have to shoot at the void-ish space that the characters are trying to get out of before said cannon is shot. OH YEAH! What originally reminded me of the first Tenchi movie was the scene in the monitoring room or whatever with all the alarms going off, compared to the scene at Galaxy Police HQ when Kain breaks out of the prison dimension and destroys the station. Also, is it just me or were Senna's mannerisms a lot like Mayuka's from the second Tenchi movie. Not to mention the whole Mary Sue-ishness (a term I don't use negatively) of both characters.

After the movie Sandy wanted to DDR, so we went over to the arcade area. (I didn't dance because the borrowed pants were too big on me and I kept thinking they were going to fall down. To be fair, I don't think they were actually big enough to fall down, but that doesn't mean I wasn't distracted by them. Anyways, I probably looked like total dork dancing on the side a bit with my thumbs in the belt loops holding the pants up.) When it finally was Sandy's turn, she danced with this other guy who apparently worked at the theater. He was really cool, and he asked for Sandy and my contact information. Apparently he's on Detour staff, and has actually been to MAS a few times.

So then we stopped at SA on the way home, got Oreos and Reese's Cups, and went back to her place and hung out for a while. Originally I was thinking I might spend the night, but after finding out that I was going to be working at 8 am this morning I knew that wasn't a great idea. Then Sandy said her grandpa said he would give me a ride home, but it turned out she was confused and he was giving me a ride to the bus stop (which was sweet but unnecessary), and then once we got to the bus stop I realized I left my wallet at her place and we had to go back. ^^; Turned out I left them in her pants, which is a damn funny thing to say out of context. And then her grandpa gave me a ride back to the bus stop an hour later. ^_^;

I should also mention that her grandpa, very sweetly, handed me a bill and told me to come back again. I looked at it when we went into Sandy's room before leaving, and he had given me a twenty dollar bill. O.O I thought it was just $2 for bus fare, or something. Anyways, as much as I could use the money... I gave it back to Sandy and told her to find some way to sneak it back to him without him knowing.

Creepy guy trying to pick me up on the bus, but then turning out not to be as creepy when he seemed to pick up on my discomfort and told me he'd stop bothering me.

Got home at 1:45, went to bed at 2:30, got up at 6:30. Whoo. Work itself didn't go badly at all. Basically I spent 7 hours cutting, bagging, tying, and labeling Rice Krispy bars. It actually wasn't bad at all, and I didn't get very tired either. It did remind me, however, of how much I want a desk job where I can quietly listen to music. Even if all I do at that desk job is bag Rice Krispy bars for 8 hours a day. I actually am allowed to listen to music, just not using headphones since that's unsafe in a kitchen environment, and I didn't have my mini-speakers with me. Eventually I decided to just turn my iPod up to maximum volume as place the headphones on the top shelf where I was working facing me, so it kind of helped me pick up the pace and enjoy myself more. I still feel stupid for getting about one tray done an hour, and I think my manager was a little negatively surprised by that too, although he asked me to come in again Monday morning to do at least the cookies I didn't get to baking and bagging, and he might want me to do other stuff too. In any case, I'll make sure to bring my speakers Monday.

Almost as soon as I got home at 4 my sleep deprivation caught up to me. I tried to stay up since I figured it would be good for my sleep schedule and watched an episode of GitS:SAC, but after that was over I gave up and took a nap at 4:30 which lasted until 7:30. So much for taking advantage of my sleep deprivation.

So that was my best attempt at a Vinny-style tl;dr entry. And to think when I started it it was still light outside, although to be fair I spent 42 minutes talking to Katie on Skype which slowed my journaling down quite a bit. (I only got that paragraph about work done during the call.) Not sure what I'm gonna do with the rest of the night. I suppose I should really get my whites washed before my parents go to bed.

[EDIT: Soaked my knee in the bath at my dad's reccomendation and gently rubbed a bit of soap on it. I was thinking I should try to get the scab to lift a bit and let it form a new one, but dad said that wouldn't be a good idea. And now I'm itchy. Why do I always get itchy after coming out of a hot bath?]

You know how you always complainin about guys on the bus? I'm a bad person, I was chatting up a pretty girl busing back from the beach or something in a swimsuit just yesterday :/ I'm now officially a creep.

I'm pretty sure she was in high school, to boot.

I think the Bleach manga is much more enjoyable - the art is prettier, there's no weird anime fillers, and it takes a lot less time to read the manga than watch the anime. ^_^

I gave up on the Bleach anime in the... 60s? But I'm still reading the manga. :D

Vinny, as a friend, that's something you should work on.

But I'm a lot classier about it at least. And I'm too uke to say any obvious come-ons anyways.
