Hmm, personally I don't think that membership should only be open to paid members, for some reason that just makes me feel kind of bastardly. I think it ought to be more like the message board - a community where people who like MAS but may or may not be a full member can chill and complain or whatnot. I know a lot of people who don't pay who are more "members" than people who shell out a one-time six bucks. I think making the distinction between the two is just picky and unnecessary. Just my two cents.
