soon to be commissioning "graders"
Apr. 28th, 2007 02:22 pmThis is rather early notice, but... I clearly need more practice writing papers than what I've gotten in freshman comp. this spring, so I'm thinking of commissioning some people to critique my papers as I finish them, with a bonus for anyone willing to prod me along the way. Also, I wouldn't mind some suggestions on what I should write about. At first I was thinking of just writing research papers, as that's my worst subject, but
tiernsshadow inadvertently reminded me that it might be good for me to do a lit crit paper as well. Perhaps on Monte Cristo? Two birds with one stone boulder. I kind of want to do a practice linguistics paper, but that might be hard as the only linguistics class I took properly was 3001... Other possible areas: a history paper, a culture paper, a persuasive essay... I was also thinking that it would be good for me to avoid my typical subjects of interest, but then again... I'm doing this over the summer, of my own volition, and for no grade... So why shouldn't I do it on something that interests me. Plus, I realized that doing them on something I'm interested in might help me to stick with it more.
So, yeah, as with every summer of my aware life, there's way too much I want to do, and I doubt I'll get a tenth of it done:
- study for the 2kyuu
- study/get tutoring in German
- write 1-3 papers on various subjects
- review Japanese (i.e., the material from the classes I've taken at the U)
- read a bunch of books (both fiction and non-) I've been wanting to read for forever
- get a head start on reading the materials for my fall classes
- read all the linguistics textbooks I have sitting around
- dfjlasdskfjlskdfj CLEAN!!!!!! (Including renting a carpet cleaner and washing the carpets, cleaning out the windowsills, cleaning the crawl space in my closet, washing the walls, etc., etc.)
- fansub some PVs
- translate はじめての茶の湯
- work a bunch so I can pay of my credit card bill, get some 2kyuu prep materials, buy my denshi jisho, perhaps a jitensha, actually get some savings going, etc etc...
- ad infinitum
Yeah, I need to figure out some priorities here. I feel a poll coming on...
Also, this morning I watched about ten minutes into some British made-for-TV (I think) movie called Secret Smile starring David Tennant, but I ended up deleting it because it turned out to be one of those creepy movies of the Lifetime sort, which was especially weird with Tennant in that role... Not that I only want him to play good people (I enjoyed his few minutes as Barty Crouch, Jr.), but... Yeah.
Anyways. Back to work.
