buying CDs

I think I realized another reason why I'm having so much trouble with this copyright infringement thing... Without those files, I have no music, and if you apply it to fansubs, none of the shows I love. I mean, that's a bit of an exaggeration, since I have SOME stuff of my own, but really, there's so much music that I want to listen to that I can't afford to buy every one of those CDs... And assuming the song isn't played on the radio (or it was played on the radio, but isn't any longer), that song has more or less left my life.
I know, I know, I shouldn't let my morality be based on what I want; this isn't like Aladdin stealing bread.
I wonder... If I were to buy a every CD or CD single I would need to legally own every song on my computer, just how many CDs would that be? How much money would that be? At least a thousand CDs, certainly, so well over $30,000, especially if you count the Japanese stuff I would have to import.
I wonder if I should delete all my media... I really don't want to. ><;

Anyways, regarding the BnL concert, Pat can't come with me since he found out he has a chem test tomorrow. :( But I called Margaret and asked her if she wanted to go with me, and she said yes. (She can't pay me for the ticket, but I'd much rather go with her and not make any money back than go without her an not make any money back. :) In fact, I'd rather go with her even versus going alone and making money.)
I haven't decided yet if I'm going to go home and pick up the tickets Alana bought me and try to sell those on location...

[EDIT: I forgot to mention, I got my appointment set up for 2:30 on Monday.]

I do own a LOT of the music I've downloaded... Most of the japanese stuff I have I *love* so I try to buy the CDs... But a lot of is simple impossible to find to buy.. Albums out of print etc even in japan.
I think the copyright laws are ridiculous. If you don't HAVE the money to buy the album, then you're not going to buy it regardless of wether you download it or not.

If I was an artist I would rather someone HEARD my music than not, and maybe then they'll go buy the record.

I won't spend $30 on an album unless I've heard it first, that's just how it is!

Not to mention there are marvelous (or just catchy) individual songs on a CD full of stuff that you're just "meh" about. (And who honestly wants to put a new single in their CD player every ten minutes? Although I suppose that's part of the legal purpose of CD ripping...)

About deleting your media... Don't do it. Don't feel guilty for having that stuff, either. The artist sees about one penny out of every $100 you spend on them. The only person you're "stealing" from is a organization that sues it's potential customers into the ground for trying to sample their stuff. They also try to install very dangerous things on your system(Sony's CDs contain something called a RootKit More info here http://www.grc.com/sn/SN-012.htm)
It's getting to the point where buying CDs from major organizations is unethical, not the other way around..
