What is important about behavior being consistent over time and across situations?

Knowing that our behavior is consistent over time and across situations gives us a sense that we are our own selves, and that even though we may act differently with our friends than in class, we have not become a different person in the time in between, for in ten years we will still mostly act the same way with our friends as we do now.

[Note to grader: I don't really know what this question means...]

But really... What did that question mean?

*decides to take a break and watch half of a Full Moon wo Sagashite ep. and eat an apple before starting on my LASK reading (or whatever I decide to work on next)*
