You know, I've had it many times before, but I just want to say that congee is deceptively yummy, and I imagine cheap, and I'm going to try to find a good recipe for it. The trick will probably be in getting the right flavorings. Looking at Food Network's recipe for Chinese Chicken Congee with Crispy Shallots, Crispy Garlic, and Sesame Oil, I realize the main vegetable in the Wok's congee that I appreciate is the ginger. The recipe itself seems rather complicated for my level of skill, and more importantly, my storage resources.
Here's a more basic recipe that I should probably start with. Of course, that doesn't look like it would taste that good as is, but I figure I can throw in a couple of ingredients from the Food Network recipe to give it a bit more flavor.
[EDIT: Sweet! So, apparently Tokyopop got the Peacemaker Kurogane from ADV, which makes me think we'll eventually, finally, get volumes past 3. Which reminds me, I should finish volume 3 of Peacemaker before volume 4 arrives.
From the Japanese Wikipedia: 『PEACE MAKER』は黒乃奈々絵作の漫画およびテレビアニメ。 また2007年に舞台化もされた。
ぶ...舞台化?! I wanna see!
(In English, in 2007 Peacemaker was adapted into some sort of a stage production - dunno if it was simply a play or it was a musical. Probably the former.)
In the legal diclaimers of my Peacemaker manga: "Any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental."
Umm... No? *laughs*]
[EDIT 2: Apparently some people believe they're (mortal) vampires. Umm... WTF? I mean, I'll admit that I rather like the taste of blood (such as when I chew on my lip too much), but I think there's a big difference between "drinking blood" (I imagine these people take it much, much farther than I do) and asserting that you need (or have your quality of life improved by) the blood.
Maybe I should start calling myself a tea vampire. ^^;
In other words, I fully accept this as a name for a lifestyle choice (recognizing that what one enjoys is not necessarily a choice), but attributing any further "truth" to it is bogus.]
