Just finished the Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou series... What is it with GAINAX and endings leaving you feeling un-fulfilled? Actually, I was OK with the Abenobashi ending, but many considered it a deuce-ex (however you spell that).
I suppose it's fitting though. Just... uncomfortable. In my gaijin theorizing, perhaps Japanese are more aware that true love doesn't last forever, and just because it doesn't last forever doesn't mean it's not true love. I always hope that these shoujo series would end in marriage or some more Hollywood-like resolve, but then it wouldn't be much different from Western storytelling, now would it?
Nostalgia for a future lost or uncertain... What a painful feeling. I could deal with it much better if I when it's over it's over, but I'm coming to realize that "coming of age" is a continuing process. Could it be not that old people accept death not because they feel fulfilled, but because they realize they will never be? That we must forever grow through these growing pains, long past adolescence?
If I hadn't pulled a marathon on this series I'd be doing massive fic readage now, but you know what? Maybe it's good not to feel fulfilled. I don't need some fan to tell me of their honeymoon five years in the future, or of Arima's brutal rape and murder of Yukino. Why don't I let the real story set in first?
(Does anybody find the level of reality I find in these characters sad?)
In other news... ^_^;
Had my pre-op today. Needed a hemoglobin check, and you know what that means: lab work! They're also going to check my cholesterol level so I don't need a needle in ten years if all goes well. Still... You should have seen me. ><;;; It took maybe a whole extra 45 minutes just because I'm an ueber-wuss when it comes to needles. I came this close to walking away, but Dad would not let me.
That lab nurse gets a 200% tip!
Also, I found out that Allie has scoliosis. (She only found out about a month ago.) Weird...
OK, I'm feeling collected enough now (from Kare Kano) to turn on some music. *turns on JAR* Morning Musume's "As For One Day"! Forgive me, but I have grown to actually like this song. (And yes, that's "like" like, not just like. =P)
Dunno. I'll write more later.
86 hours and 29 minutes until my surgery. ><;
