I honestly wonder if I wouldn't be so adverse to romanizing katakana words as the word in the language they come from if my earliest exposure to Japanese hadn't been from a singer fluent in both English and Japanese, who sometimes is clearly speaking English, and is sometimes clearly using gairaigo. The idea in my mind is that even for people who can't pronounce English correctly, if it's written in English they'd pronounce it properly if they could, and if it's written in katakana they'd pronounce it as it's written, and I want to carry this written difference over into my romanization. Of course, i still have no real excuse for my tendency to capitalize katakana, except that that's how I got used to it on AnimeLyrics.com and that I got stuck on trying to attempt a one-to-one transition (so I can tell as best I can how something was originally written without seeing it). Actually, weird habit of mine - despite capitalizing words that were originally written in katakana, if the furigana for a kanji is given in katakana (e.g., ムーン written above 月) I'll romanize that in lowercase letters (i.e., "muun") since the kanji is "real Japanese". (BTW, I'm on a mission to train myself to use e.g. and i.e. correctly - go me!)
そうと言っても、I never romanize, say, ぢ as di. Whee, hypocriticism! (Although maybe "hypocriticism" is a bit too strong a word here... Maybe just "inconsistency"?
I'm hungry. Maybe I should make that ramen I bought. Or try the True Delights oatmeal I picked up?

Maybe hypocrticism is when you don't criticize people enough?
