mahou shoujo who simply are

Can anyone think of any examples of magical girl anime where the girls simply *are* magical girls, rather than having been granted their powers or somehow having stumbled across it? (Come to think of it, I can think of series where someone was granted their powers as a result of a chance event, but none where they actually stumble across the powers ala Death Note. Is that more of a shounen thing?)
Seriously, though, for all the weaknesses in storytelling and plot, varying by incarnation, I think I'll always love the sort of... timelessness... contained within Sailor Moon folklore. If that makes any sense whatsoever.

CCS sort of. She discovers how to access them, but was sort of 'born' into it.

Same's true of Sailor Moon, really.

Would you count Vampire Princess Miyu as a magical girl anime?

Hmm, interesting question... Granted I've only seen the OVA with you, but my initial thought was to say yes, but then I realized that it's a generally fantastic world (?), so maybe her powers aren't unique enough? Or maybe I'm not remembering the series well enough?

In any case, if I were to pull an arbitrary definition, mahou shoujo would probably require a henshin sequence at least, and perhaps that the powers are only available to girls (ruling out sentai series and Utena).
