Glad to see I wasn't the only one who caught that. Though indirectly, almost all of the crew of the Serenity have an Outlaw Star counterpart. Sure, the Outlaw Star has a bigger crew, but they've both got a similar crew dynamic.

Also? In the same way that Melfina guides the Outlaw Star to the Galactic Leyline, so does River guide Serenity to Maranda in the movie Serenity.

I'd say she's an odd combo of Jayne and Simon (yes, I'm aware they're both men) in that she's tough as nails, but has this funny, prissy side to her.
