Urbana-Champaign Friends Meeting

Went to the Urbana-Champaign Friends Meeting today. I love how many windows there are at that meetinghouse. I almost feel like I'm outdoors! Unfortunately, one of the three window-walls faces the street, but I just sat on that side and looked out towards the garden instead. :) There were only 23 people, plus three kids and one First Day School worker. I suppose not unexpectedly from such a small meeting there was only one message, which is a lot less than I'm used to (which is usually around 4 or 5), although apparently there was only one message at Twin Cities Friends Meeting today too. Then again, apparently their numbers were lower today as well, partly because they're doing repairs on the meetiinghouse and holding it at Friends School of Minnesota instead, and partly because Northern Yearly Meeting is this weekend. Maybe because it's been so long since I've been to meeting, I was really ancy today, and had trouble sitting still and just relaxing.
There's going to be a discussion of sorts on centering oneself during worship at one of the member's houses this Thursday evening, so I'm going to try to go to that, partly because I could use some help with that, and partly because I'm hoping to make some connections through this meeting. I have a feeling UCFM (do they call it that?) is much more Christian than TCFM, since one person asked me what nontheist meant when I brougt up my being nontheist as part of my reason for being glad for UCFM being unprogrammed, and I overheard talking about reading passages by Paul at Thursday's get-together. Granted I probably have a skewed view of things, since my dad is a relatively vocal nontheist at TCFM, and I'm pretty sure there are a number of more expressly Christian get-togethers at TCFM that I don't attend.
And on a completely different topic, I discovered yesterday that MTD (Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District) doesn't run at all on New Year's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas, and doesn't run in the evening on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve. Now, I assume Marcia gets all of these days off (she's an elementary school teacher), so if I end up being scheduled to work these days I might be able to get a ride from her, but I have to say... At least in the Twin Cities, the type of people that need the bus are often also the type that don't get work off on these days. Then again, the demographic of bus riders here may be primarily students. Still... I wish they'd do what Metro Transit does and just make holidays a Sunday schedule.
And finally, a link: A Prom Divided: In Georgia, Segregation Endures on Prom Night.
