Huh... Canada bans imports of selected hentai titles. Certain titles expressly ruled "admissable".
Not sure what I think of that. I guess depending on the specific reasoning for banning the titles they did I can go with it. The wording makes it seem like it has to do more with what the sex is paired with, such as "crime, horror, cruelty and violence". I mean, if you check out the plot summary for one of the series they banned, you can really see why. I guess I'm also glad they're only banning importation, not owning.
Honestly, although I think the government has no business making laws concerning sex practices (except regarding minors and consentuality) or the sale of sex aids, I'm not sure what I think about pornographic material. I'm probably much more hesitant about live-action pornography, but even when it's animated, I can understand making laws restricting pornography regarding, again, minors and consentuality. Even then, if you showed me empirical evidence that that sort of thing reduces incident rates in real life, I'd probably be more supportive than ambivalent, but from what I've through the biased grapevine, that's not really the case. (Goodness knows I'm being a hypocrite here.)
I guess my main point is that I'm not completely up in arms about this decision.
On a random note, how does a hentai series such as this one get described as "slice of life"?!
Man, what a strange job it would be to have to view these titles with the purpose of deciding their admissability...
